TGIF 9: The Detroit Underground

by The Editors on August 16, 2016

The Detroit Underground, is not new to Carlsbad’s TGIF Concerts In The Parks, and those who saw them last year appreciated their solid and funky rhythm section and powerful lead vocalists who crank out tunes from artists such as Stevie WonderChaka Kahn, and Earth, Wind and Fire. And they’ll be doing exactly that this Friday evening (August 19, 2016) in Alga Norte Community Park as TGIF Concerts In The Parks closes out the 2016 season.

The Detroit Underground was established in 1994, and still has several of its original members. Over the years the band has earned the reputation for being a hard working, high energy, show band. The group features a very solid and funky rhythm section. These four seasoned players provide a solid foundation for the band’s “smokin” horns.

Remember to bring low-back chairs, snacks, and a groove ready mind. Show starts at 6 PM. Calavera Hills Park, is located at 2997 Glasgow Dr. at the corner of Carlsbad Village Drive. Shuttle service operates between 4:30 and 9 p.m. from Sage Creek High School (3900 Cannon Road).

TGIF 7: Western Centuries with The Bedbreakers

by The Editors on August 2, 2016

Carlsbad’s 2016 TGIF Concerts In The Parks brings together two, two, two bands for one as Western Centuries with The Bedbreakers bring their brand of country and rockin’ roots blues to Poinsettia Park. Yee haw.

Round up a country band and an early R&B group with three lead vocalists, weave in a hefty amount of vocal harmony and witty turns-of-phrase and let ‘em rock out like The Band. The sound of roots music mavericks Western Centuries sits at these crossroads. The Bedbreakers are one of San Diego’s top Roots and Blues bands.

Music begins at 6 PM if you wanted to bring some hay bales to sit on, they wouldn’t be out of place. Poinsettia Community Park is located 6600 Hidden Valley Road in Carlsbad, California. Parking shuttle service operates between 4:30 to 9 p.m. from North Coast Calvary Chapel, 1330 Poinsettia Lane.
