It won’t be the official opening, but Carlsbad duffers who’d like to get a taste of The Crossings At Carlsbad will be able to play on Sunday August 5 and then again on Friday August 10 before the official opening of the golf course on August 11 thanks to the Carlsbad City Council.
. . . during the Tuesday night meeting, City Council members said they wanted one of the resident play days to come before the chamber’s tournament, which is Aug. 6.
You know, so it doesn’t look like the City Council spent the approximately $64 million just for themselves. Click here for all the Carlsbadistan coverage of The Crossings.

A small plane crash at McClellan-Palomar Airport on July 3, 2007 will probably delay the planned August 4 full-scale opening of Carlsbad’s new municipal golf course, The Crossings at Carlsbad, according to City Officials quoted in the North County Times.
. . . A further complication is that the plane’s insurance company has informed the city that it is refusing to pay for the repair work, City Attorney Ronald Ball said. Company officials told Carlsbad that the employee who initially said the company would cover the work didn’t have the authority to make that decision, Ball said.
The City has approved $750,000 for environmental cleanup work and fairway and cart path repair (bringing the total cost of the course up to $63.5 million) and are now looking into the possibility of opening part of the course while repair work continues.

North County Times sports columnist Steve Scholfied got to tour Carlsbad’s newest golfing facility The Crossings and he says it should be “a blast for everyone.”
From what I saw during my tour, The Crossings will be special for golfers and non-golfers alike. It will be a tremendous asset to Carlsbad. . . Built around the strict confines of acres of environmentally sensitive wetlands, The Crossings appears to be an elegant and challenging layout.
This course may mean starting to golf, if you don’t already. For the rest of the story, click the link.

Join Happy Hour Politics on Wednesday, June 17th, 2015 at The Crossing At Carlsbad to meet Michael Page, US Border Patrol Agent. Michael is with the Information and Communication Division, and is the Border Community Liaison Agent in charge of the Northwestern part of the San Diego Sector. He currently works at the I-5 Checkpoint in San Clemente. Be there on June 17th to hear about the Border Patrol and its operations, and the problems and concerns facing these agents on a daily basis. Keep in mind that our San Diego border is the busiest in the nation!
The United States Border Patrol is the mobile, uniformed law enforcement arm of U.S. Customs and Border Protection within the Department of Homeland Security responsible for securing U.S. borders between ports of entry. Since 9/11, the focus of the Border Patrol has changed to detection, apprehension and/or deterrence of terrorists and terrorist weapons. Although the Border Patrol has changed dramatically since its inception in 1924, its overall mission remains unchanged: to detect and prevent the illegal entry of aliens into the United States. Together with other law enforcement officers, the Border Patrol helps maintain borders that work, facilitating the flow of legal immigration and goods while preventing the illegal trafficking of people and contraband.
