Oh, we love trash! Anything dirty or dingy or dusty Anything ragged or rotten or rusty. . . and it appears we’re not the only ones. The City of Carlsbad has planted six different styles of garbage cans in the Village of Carlsbad this week and they what your help deciding which style of trash receptacle you’d most like to see around town.
The trash receptacles are all located on State St. between Carlsbad Village Dr. and Grand Ave., with one by the fountain at State and Grand. Voting is open until November 30. . . The cans were either donated or loaned by various street furniture manufacturers. The goal of the contest is to determine which cans the public likes best and which perform the best — and ultimately to upgrade the existing receptacles throughout the Village.
Each can has a card on it explaining exactly how to vote. For complete info follow the jump [click to continue…]

Carlsbadistan surfer Ricky Whitlock ran into some trouble while surfing the North Shore of Oahu’s Pipeline on January 25, 2012.
Ricky took off on his second wave of the morning, which broke on top of him and slammed him into the reef, breaking two vertebra in his back. This is his story.
The film is narrated by Carlsbad High School graduate Sal Masekela. It’s like an all Carlsbadistan cast. We’re glad Whitlock is back at it.

The 150 abled and challenged riders who left San Francisco, California on Saturday, October 13, 2012 for the 2012 Dodge Million Dollar Challenge rolled through Carlsbadistan this morning (October 19, 2012), before ending their journey in La Jolla, California having ridden 620 miles down the California Coast in only six days.
The riders, who had full support, ate great meals, and stayed in five-star hotels along the way, helped raise more than $1 million for the Challenged Athlete’s Foundation.
Former participant and professional cyclist Christian Vande Velde says that ride was an inspiration:
“It was one of the most rewarding weeks of cycling I have ever experienced,” he said. “It was amazing to ride for a cause that helps change the lives of so many athletes, and gives them the chance to enjoy what we do every day. In the end, I think I left the most inspired of all.”
Several Carlsbadistan based businesses helped sponsor the ride including Life Technologies, SKLZ, and Spy Optic. For more information on how you can ride the coast next year or help someone who is riding, click the link.
