Previews begin tonight (April 20, 2011) for New Village Arts Theatre’s west coast premiere production of Scott Hudson’s Sweet Storm.
In 1960 Florida, during a approaching storm Ruthie and Bo, two newlyweds, enter their honeymoon suite in the sky: a treehouse which is a romantic gift from the young groom to his bride. Yet Bo’s expectations of living happily ever after in the sky are soon grounded by Ruthie’s realization that marriage comes with many unforeseen – and frightening – challenges. The two lovers struggle to fortify themselves against forces both inside and outside. This is a funny, powerful, and intimate love story to challenge our perceptions of marriage, faith, and love.
The production features NVA Ensemble Member Adam Brick with Kelly Ivernsen. Pay-what-you-can previews run April 20 through 22, 2011 at 8 PM. Click here to buy tickets. Opening night April 23, 2011. Click the link for more info.

The City of Carlsbadistan has apparently gone all high-tech, science fiction in making sure that our city’s 337 miles of paved roads are in good shape.
“We had experts literally drive every road in the city with a truck that had a laser-camera that shows what condition the pavement is in,” said John Maashoff, a city construction manager. “This comprehensive assessment is a great tool we can use for future maintenance plans. Well maintained roads figure heavily into smooth flowing traffic and the overall quality of life in Carlsbad.”
The City says the roads got a score of 81 out of 100 for upkeep. Hey, if it was done with lasers it’s got to be good right? Lasers are rad. Follow the jump for the entire story. [click to continue…]

A 37-year-old man was reportedly stabbed multiple times during an attack in the courtyard of the Village Faire near The Coyote Bar before 1 AM on Sunday, April 9, 2011, according to a story in the San Diego Union Tribune. Police were notified by Tri-City Hospital after the man came in for treatment.
Once officers arrived, he told them two men had stabbed him in the courtyard of The Coyote, a bar on Carlsbad Village Road near Carlsbad Boulevard. The man did not tell police what prompted the attack, the spokesman said. . . Police later found blood about 500 feet away outside the Daily News Cafe on Carlsbad Boulevard. It was unclear if those bloodstains were connected to the stabbing, the spokesman said.
The unnamed victim described the assailants as two large white men. More blood on the streets of Carlsbad.
