Friday night at 9:30 two masked men robbed the Carlsbad Comfort Inn on Pio Pico Drive with a handgun and a shotgun, according to a story in the North County Times.
One suspect was described as a white man about 20 years old, 6-feet to 6-feet-2-inches tall, with a thin build. The second suspect is a black man in his mid-20s, 5-feet-8-inches to 5-feet-10-inches tall. He wore a faux black leather jacket and had a medium build.
The two men reportedly stole $300 in cash and a portable DVD player before “running south toward Tamarack.” It is believed that the same men then continued on to Encinitas and robbed the Chin’s Szechwan Cuisine on Encinitas Boulevard at 10:30 PM.

We’re thinking of creating the Carlsbadistan Bank Robbery Tote Board, just so we can more easily keep track of all the bank robberies in our quaint little village (this is number six in six months).
Today’s perp was described as a white, 60-year-old man, 5 feet 10, about 160 pounds wearing glasses, a white shirt, and blue jeans.
The man entered the [California Bank and Trust] branch on Carlsbad Village Drive near Madison Street about 10:45 a.m. After the teller gave him the money, the robber ran away. No weapon was seen.
Though we find it hard to believe that he ran all that fast. He was 60.

Pat Weber, the owner of the Carslbad-based San Diego Surfing Academy, decided to escape the fires last month by taking his girlfriend to Baja for a short surf trip at Cuatro Casas. Things only got worse once they got into Mexico, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.
Just after sundown Oct. 23, two men wearing military clothing and ski masks confronted the couple. Weber said he initially refused to come out of his motor home, but surrendered after the robbers fired a shot into the vehicle. “They made us get down on all fours – execution position – and put guns to our heads. . . The gunmen sexually assaulted his girlfriend before stealing $10,000 worth of computers, video cameras and other gear, he said.
Weber stopped in Ensenada and reported the robbery. Apparently, they weren’t the first to be robbed at Cuartro Casas. Click the link for the rest of the story on the downside of Baja surf trips.

An unnamed, off-duty Carlsbad Police officer who was in Belleville, Illinois this past weekend witnessed a man on a street corner stabbing a woman. He jumped out took action.
Assistant Police Chief Roger Barfield said the officer from Carlsbad, Calif., was driving by the scene. “He witnessed the suspect on top of the victim making a stabbing motion,” Barfield said. He got out of his car and ordered the suspect to stop and the suspect did. . . . The arriving Belleville officer found a woman laying face up in the street, bleeding from her right arm and abdomen area, according to a statement released by Capt. Donald R. Sax.
Turns out the woman had money that she wanted to use to buy food, the man of course, thought it would be better to spend it on beer. When she wouldn’t give it to him he took out a knife and began slashing her. Thanks to the Carlsbad police officer the woman is still alive.

Carlsbad’s finest continue to serve and protect. Nice work.

After attempting to hold up a 7-Eleven in Cardiff on October 3 at 1 AM, it seems that the black man in a ski mask drove north to Carlsbad and then robbed the Circle K on Roosevelt Street at gunpoint.
The gunman demanded cash and was seen leaving in a dark-colored car, police said. . . He was described as black, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, 165 pounds and bald.
We’re wondering if the Ralphs bank robber just shaved off his dreads for another round of robberies.

Police chased a BMW through Carlsbadistan last night at speeds up to 70 MPH until the driver (Patrick Jackson of Pauma Valley) hit a parked car on Juniper Avenue. And just as the driver jumped from the car to run away he was mowed down by an on coming Carlsbad Police car.
Officers tried to pull over the driver on Grand Avenue about 9:20 p.m. for several traffic violations, Carlsbad police Sgt. Keith Blackburn said. The driver allegedly sped off at 70 mph, struck a parked car and stopped on Juniper Avenue. . . The driver, 33, from Pauma Valley, was treated at a hospital for a broken leg, then booked into jail on suspicion of drunken driving, hit-and-run, evading police and a parole hold.
We saw the flashing lights while driving by and didn’t investigate more thoroughly. For that we apologize.

They used to be called the Carlsbad Company Stores, but apparently they are now known as the Premium Outlets and yesterday they got robbed, according to the North County Times.
At about 6 p.m., an officer stopped a car for driving recklessly behind the outlet stores, according to Carlsbad police. After a short investigation the officer concluded that the occupants, two adults and one 17-year-old male, had burglarized the Osh Kosh store. Police say the suspects had taken $500 worth of clothing and were fleeing when they were stopped.
Sounds like baby needed the clothes.

Hey look, another Carlsbad bank was robbed yesterday at 3:40 PM. This time it was the Union Bank of California that is located inside the Ralphs at Avenida Encinas. The man asked for cash and:
The teller handed over the cash and the robber escaped after running south through the parking lot. He was described as black, in his mid-30s, 5 feet 11 inches tall, of medium build, with his hair in dreadlocks. He wore dark pants, a gray sweat shirt and sunglasses and carried a dark backpack.
The man walked with less than $1000 in cash. Though police “searched the area for almost an hour” with the help of the San Diego County Sheriff helicopter they did not find him. This is the fifth Carlsbad bank robbery since May.

These are the kind of stories that make us sigh and harken back to those quieter, gentler times when girls at a slumber party could go out and TP their friend’s house without the police being called. Well, Calavera Hills mom Jeanne Brandone “has had it with giggling young people sneaking into her yard in the middle of the night to toss toilet paper onto her trees” so she’s called the police and contacted a lawyer.
Hit by toilet-paper tossers twice in two weeks, Brandone has her suspicions that the incidents have something to do with her 16-year-old daughter . . . Brandone estimated that 25 to 30 rolls remained up on her roof, and she wants to hire someone to get the stuff off the palm trees. She’s now on the hunt for the perpetrators, she said. She’s got leads on a few possibilities, but she’s not releasing what she knows to the media. Her family lawyer has advised her that it’s better to keep her mouth shut, she said.
Talk about making things harder for your kids at school.
