Carlsbadistan based eyewear maker Spy Optic has used the bike lane on Carlsbad Boulevard (right in front of Dini’s) in their latest Beware campaign. Nice nose stand kiss, right?
If you’re wondering why you’re seeing an abnormal amount of fit people cruising the streets of Carlsbad this week, we’re blaming it on the 30th Annual Carlsbad Triathlon which is going down at Tamarack Beach on Sunday, July 8 2012. The first swimmers hit the water at 8 AM and from there it’s a swim, bike, run to the finish. For coverage of past events, click here. For more information on this year’s race click the link.
For those who spend several hours of each day on their bikes riding to and from work the idea of National Bike To Work Day (Friday, May 18, 2012) must seem kind of funny.
Yes, those who ride probably laugh a little with superior mustachioed smirks, at the quaintness of a day set aside when people who usually pilot their monstrous SUVs to work slum it out in the bike lane. But we’re guessing they also smile because they’re happy that “official days” like this get more people thinking about riding their bikes to work every day. And that’s good.
If you need a little encouragement the iCommuteSD website is offering up prizes for people who ride their bikes to work.
Those who register for Bike to Work Day will be automatically entered to win one of many great prizes, including the grand prize — a new bicycle! In addition, every time you bike to work in May, and log your trip in TripTracker at 511sd.com/iCommute, you will be entered for chances to win additional prizes. Register for Bike to Work Day to be automatically eligible for these weekly prize drawings in May. Weekly prizes include San Diego Zoo and Safari Park passes, spa gift certificates, free Car2Go memberships, transit passes, and much more.
Not only that, but if you bike to work on Friday, may 18, 2012 the City of Carlsbadistan is going to help you out with two “pit stops” that will provide free T-shirts, snacks, beverages and giveaways while supplies last. One pit-stop will be on the west side of Carlsbad Boulevard at Pine Avenue and the other at Zone 5 Park on Faraday Avenue and Camino Hills Drive.

This Sunday, April 1, 2012, the Carlsbad 5000 will take to the streets of Carlsbadistan for the 27th time. And this years field promises to be the best yet. Ethiopia’s Dejen Gebremeskel, the defending champion and last year’s 5,000-meter bronze medalist will be leading the field. But there’s more:
Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge, the 2011 Carlsbad runner-up who was ranked No. 1 in the world over 5,000 meters in 2010 and has silver and bronze medals in the 5,000 from the past two Olympic Games; and Ethiopia’s Tariku Bekele, a former world champion over 3,000 meters indoors and with a best of 12:54.45 over 5,000 meters.
We learned a few things watching this video. We were most excited to discover that Carlsbadistan apparently has a pier under which the Lululemon/Specialized women’s cycling team loves to hang out. Promo video don’t have to tell the truth, right? It’s marketing. Plus, we already know what yoga does to people. Glad they at least got the rolling beauty of Carlsbadistan right.
So that’s what those logo’d out vans were doing in the Norte parking lot last week. And to think, we didn’t even get to be dropped by them even once. Sad. Sad. Sad.
“We just completed Phase 1 of our beautiful new state-of-the-art facility in Bressi Ranch,” said Athletic Director Aaron Brown. “It will be exciting to throw open our doors, and welcome youngsters in the community to their new Clubhouse.”. . . Kicking off the summer will be the Brad Holland Basketball Camp. Featuring instruction from current Club CEO and former Lakers player/USD head coach Brad Holland, four one-week sessions will be offered beginning June 13 and is open to boys and girls of all skill levels. . . In addition, a sports lovers camp is being offered for those kids who just love to have fun and compete. This camp will focus on a different sport each day leading up to a sports-themed field trip on Friday.

Wait a hot minute. Isn’t Kelli Hutcherson the girl we keep seeing on the sand at Offshore? Carlsbadistan is definitely heating up this summer as Kelli locks in with a Maxim Girl profile. Click here for the whole video.
