The Carlsbad Music Festival is looking for a few musicians shoe would like to participate in the festival’s Village Music Walk on the evening of Friday, June 21, 2013.
The June Village Music Walk is a FREE community event that will feature a full evening of 30+ performances of adventurous music of all kinds in intimate venues around Carlsbad Village. The Village Music Walk is a regular and popular feature of the September Carlsbad Music Festival, and this year we are additionally presenting it as a standalone event in June. Venues range from the Foundry at New Village Arts to Spin Records to Magee Park to the old train station. With over 30 concerts to choose from over the evening, a Music Walk attendee can choose their own pathway through the music and the Village.
Carlsbad will get a taste of fine films this fall with the launch of the La Costa Film Festival held October 24-27, 2013 at the La Costa Spa and Resort, according to a story in the Hollywood Reporter. Festival founders Michael and Ruby Callihan say the festival will help raise money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Carlsbad.
The Opening Night Gala will feature an open-air screening at the La Costa Resort and Spa. Additional screenings will take place at La Costa Cinepolis Theaters, as well as the Ruby G. Schulman Theater at the Carlsbad Dove Library. . . The festival will feature a special competition focusing on sports-themed films as well as a shorts competition for local high schools. . . “We have been amazed by how many people living around La Costa have Hollywood connections,” said festival co-founder Ruby Callihan. “So, when we began to share our dream, they all said, ‘yes, let’s bring Hollywood to the beach!’”

The Friends of the Carlsbad Library will be hosting their Spring Better Books Sale on Saturday and Sunday April 20-21, 2013 at the Georgina Cole Library Community Room at the Dove Library.
There are beautiful art books, cookbooks, books of current and classic fiction, coffee table books, gardening and design books, travel, sports, music, history, biography, children’s books and many other categories to select from. They are all very affordably priced, so now is the time to choose your reading material for the longer spring days!

The City of Carlsbadistan will be celebrating Arbor Day (April 27, 2013) by doing some work in the Calavera Hills Community Park.
Contribute to the community and the environment: help plant trees, restore irrigation basins and pick up litter. Get information on trees maintenance from Davey Tree Experts, West Coast Arborists and SDG&E’s Vegetation Management Department. . . Displays and booths will be set up near the lower parking lot. Volunteer registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Complete a volunteer application in advance and bring to the registration table.
The City has all the tools, however, if you’ve got the soft hands of a poet (or a blogger) then please feel free to bring your own work gloves. Work begins at 8:30 AM and finished at 10:30 AM Saturday, April 27, 2013. Calavera Hills Community Park is located at 2997 Glasgow Drive in Carlsbad.

On Friday, April 5, 2013 the Legoland Hotel will officially kick opens its doors to the public and Legoland California General Manager Peter Ronchetti and Hotel General Manager Frank Idris will join a cast of characters at a ceremony officially opening the Hotel.
The three-story, 250 room hotel immerses guests in a creative LEGO® world and every room is themed after one of three popular LEGO toy lines in the Park: pirate, adventure or kingdom. Children have their own sleeping area in every room complete with bunk beds, a trundle bed and their own TV. Carlsbadistan are you ready to rawk and roll, and swing out to some southern blues? Then the Museum of Making Music has just the show for you on Friday night, April 5, 2013 as The Tilt kicks it up a notch at MOMMs Local Flavor Concert Series.
The Tilt band is creating new music and original songs with a fresh new sound of organic Rock and Blues. They are a youthful but experienced band fronted by singer Jesse Malley and guitarist Jeff Irwin. The Tilt delivers live as well as in the studio and continues to maintain a do-it-yourself approach to writing, recording, and releasing original songs. Their debut album is set for early 2013.
Lisa See is the New York Times bestselling author of Peony in Love, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, and Dreams of Joy, as well as the critically acclaimed memoir On Gold Mountain. On Saturday, March 30, 2013 the City of Carlsbadistan is presenting its EGGstravaganza Spring Festival at Poinsettia Park.
The event features an ongoing “egg scramble” of multiple egg hunts from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., separated by age, so come when it’s convenient for you. While you’re there, you’ll also enjoy a family scavenger hunt, a sampling of Parks & Recreation Department summer camps, photos with the Easter bunny and a fun zone with bounce houses, a giant slide and a chance to “soak the bunny.” . . To keep the scramble fun for all ages, one field will be set up for those ages 6 and over who want to race for their eggs and an identical one will be set up for children 5 and under, while a third field will have piles of eggs set aside for younger children, babies or those with special needs to collect at their leisure.
