Prepare for an afternoon filled with craft beers, premium wines, food, live music, and more. Guitarist Steph Johnson At MoMM

Vocalist and guitarist Steph Johnson and her all-star band return to Carlsbad’s Museum of Making Music for a concert and VIP Party on Saturday, January 14, 2017.

Steph’s blend of soul, jazz, funk, and blues captures your attention from the first note. She is a 2011 San Diego Music Awards Best Jazz Artist nominee and winner of the 2010 San Diego Music Award for Best Jazz Album. Her rare panoramic talent, community engagement and dynamic personality have contributed to her prominent place in the San Diego music scene.

Steph, who recently released her 4th studio album, Music is Art, with GRAMMY Award-winning producer Kamau Kenyatta, will be joined by some of San Diego’s finest musicians – GRAMMY winning trumpet player Curtis Taylor, Gregory Moore (guitarist for Earth, Wind and Fire), Tonga Ross-Ma’u (keys), Rob Thorsen (bass) and Richard Sellers (drums).

The concert is preceded by a VIP Party that includes a meet & greet with Steph and the band, live sets by DJ Sachamo, complimentary wine, beer, food and other surprises.

Alana Banana At Museum Of Making Music

Kids and families are invited to an amazing music party at Carlsbad’s Museum Of Making Music on Saturday, December 10, 2016. The event is celebrating The Alana Banana Show Album, a collection of fun songs and tunes from The Alana Banana Show.

Señor Grubby’s Community Christmas Party

Señor Grubby’s is holding their 5th Annual Community Christmas Party to benefit American Relief Organization’s program, ‘Got Your Back San Diego’, taking place on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from 6-10pm. There will be raffles, entertainment, swag bags with goodies & event t-shirts designed by Ray Goudey for the first 100 guests. All the fun is to raise money, food & awareness for ‘Got Your Back’.

Village Faire Christmas Tree Lighting

Sunday afternoon, December 4, 2016 the community of Carlsbad Village gathered at the Village Faire shopping center at the corner of Carlsbad Village Drive and Carlsbad Boulevard for the annual Rotary Christmas Tree Lighting.

There were cookies, Christmas carolers, Christmas tree ornament making for the kids, and performances by the Carlsbad High School Lancer Dancers.

Lancer Dancer’s 2016 Holiday Showcase

Carlsbad High School’s 11-time National Champion varsity dance team, the Lancer Dancers, will be performing in their annual holiday dance Showcase Thursday, December 8 through Saturday, December 10, 2016 on campus at the Carlsbad Cultural Arts Center. The shows begin at 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and a Saturday matinee is also offered at 2 p.m.

“This special annual program is a great opportunity for family, friends and the community to experience firsthand the elite level of talent the Lancer Dancers work so diligently to achieve,” said Lancer Dancers Booster Club President, Jen Cervantes, whose daughter is on the team. “The girls have been working very hard in recent months to perfect their own routines and refine the choreography for the Junior Lancer Dancers in preparation for Showcase.”

When two New York couples meet to discuss their sons’ playground tussle, a civilized evening of pleasantries and small talk erupts in a chaotic explosion of anarchy and vitriol. GOD OF CARNAGE delivered a sucker-punch to the Broadway scene, taking home the 2009 Tony for Best Play and earning knock-out reviews. This production boasts an all-star cast of NVA veterans: Manny Fernandes, Melissa Fernandes, Jeffrey Jones*, and our own Executive Artistic Director, Kristianne Kurner!

Kamau Kenyatta at Museum of Making Music

Grammy award winner Kamau Kenyatta and his all-star sextet present the U.S. premiere of the original music from Don’t Forget Your Music, a 2016 documentary film that tracks the story of the jazz star and early Kenyatta protégé, Gregory Porter, at Carlsbad’s Museum of Making Music on Saturday evening, October 1, 2016.

Composed by Kenyatta (who also produced Porter’s GRAMMY-winning album Liquid Spirit), the film’s soundtrack takes listeners on a breathtaking journey through the inspirational story of the next generation of American jazz. . . Joining him on stage will be Daneen Wilburn (voice), Curtis Taylor (trumpet), Brian Clancy (tenor sax), Mackenzie Leighton (bass), Richard Sellers (drums) and David Castañeda (percussion).

Race Like A Super Hero At Alga Norte

Dress up like a super hero and come out to the park for the third annual Super Hero Obstacle Race, on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016 from 8 to 11 a.m. at Alga Norte Community Park, 6565 Alicante Road. Parents and children will run together through a super hero themed 2K obstacle course while dressed in super hero costumes.

Defeat villains while leaping over tall buildings, crawl through toxic tunnels and navigate through 20 obstacles throughout the park. Conquer inflatable mazes and slides, wrecking balls, tight ropes, web crawlers and other obstacles along the way. The race will take approximately one hour to complete.

MoMM Takes Us All To The River

Carlsbad’s Museum of Making Music brings the history of the Memphis Sound to Southern California with a special panel discussion and film screening of Take Me to the River this Friday evening, September 16, 2016. The film’s director and Martin Shore and soul singer, STAX songwriter and producer William Bell, Talking Heads founding member Jerry Harrison and Academy Award-winning rapper Frayser Boy will all be on hand to discuss the film.

Take Me to the River traces the lineage and memory of Memphis and how the region has inspired and influenced the popular music of today. It brings together multiple generations of award-winning Memphis and Mississippi Delta musicians, follows them through the creative process of recording a new album, and reveals the story of America’s music and how it is undoubtedly one of the most original and finest gifts to the world.

The film features Terrence Howard, William Bell, Snoop Dogg, Mavis Staples, Otis Clay, Lil P-Nut, Charlie Musselwhite, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Yo Gotti, Bobby Rush, Frayser Boy, The North Mississippi All-Stars and many more.
