Dual Tracks Equal Trains In Stereo

Tracks

It won’t be long and Carlsbadistan will have two, two, two times the train traffic rolling through the neighborhood in the middle of the night. The track expansion through Carlsbad is nearly completed and soon we’ll have twice the horns honking at the Tamarack, CVD, and Grand crossings. We can hardly wait. . .

This double-tracking doesn’t mean that there will be twice the train traffic. There are still plenty of single-track bottlenecks on the Oceanside to SD route — for example, over Buena Vista lagoon, through Del Mar, and over “the pass” by Miramar– that will continue to curb train flow for decades.

The double-tracking through The 92008 will reduce delays and get us between here and the Del Mar track, SD, etc. on a more reliable schedule. I’m good with that.

Thanks for that Erik. They did some double-tracking in Cardiff recently and indeed, it just allows a train to sit off to the side to let another pass, then get back on its merry way. Its a good thing.
