Ping Pong Table Donation

Until last summer the residents of Rancho Carlsbad Estates had a winning record when it came to their ping pong tournaments against the Carlsbad Boys & Girls Club players. Then this summer, the Club players finally won the tournament. Now, Rancho Carlsbad has been good enough to donate a brand new ping pong table to the new Bressi Boys & Girls club.

The interaction between seniors and youngsters is a perfect match,” said Jim Salvia, Bressi Unit Director. “Many of our kids don’t have grandparents readily available to them. The intergenerational activities are beneficial to both groups; everyone has a blast!”

(Carlsbad, CA – January 11, 2012) Over the past five years, a special bond has developed between the senior residents of Rancho Carlsbad Estates and the teenagers who are members at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad.

The two generations have collaborated on many activities – including holiday caroling, making quilts, gardening, various art projects, and even a fishing derby. But one of the most popular of all is ping pong. After a series of wild and noisy tournaments spanning three years, the seniors clearly stunned Club teens by consistently winning. Finally this past summer, the teens turned the tables and claimed the traveling trophy as their own by winning for the very first time.

The defending champs took the loss well … in fact, they pooled their resources and purchased a ping pong table for the teens to use at the new Bressi Boys & Girls Club.
