Vigilucci’s Beach Bocce World Championship XXXIII will take place at Dog Beach in Del Mar (just west of the Del Mar RaceTrack) on Saturday, July 13, 2013. The tournament will crown World Champions in four divisions; Men’s Open, Men’s Intermediate, Women’s and Mixed. This year a record 390 – 2 player teams will be competing on a 78 courts. The championship, which is a one day tournament played in two phases – a Round Robin and Championship Single Elimination, will start at approximately 8 a.m.

In the tournament’s 32 year history $813,631 has been raised. The main beneficiary of this annual championship, which is the longest running event held on the beach in North San Diego County, is the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad. But a second recipient of money raised has always been the Del Mar Lifeguard Association. According to the tournament’s co-founder, John Manson, the hope is to raise a record $100,000 plus on Saturday!

For the full flavor of the tournament and for the best time to conduct interviews, it is suggested that the media come some time between 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. During that window of time all 390 teams will be competing in the Round Robin phase of the tournament. Also that will be the best time to conduct interviews with John Manson – Co-Founder/Tournament Director, Brad Holland – CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad, Roberto Vigilucci – owner of the Vigilucci Restaurant Group or any of the 780 Beach Bocce Ball players, who will be competing. The best photo opportunities will also be available during that time frame.
