Free Buster Keaton Films At the Library

BusterkeatonBuster Keaton’s grandson Robert Keaton will be on hand October 17, 24, and 31 as the Carlsbad City Library presents a free Buster Keaton film series.

The film lineup includes: The Navigator on October 17, Go West on October 24 and “Speak Easily” on October 31. All screenings begin at 6pm and will feature a special pre-show introduction and post-show question-and-answer with Robert Keaton.

On October 17 and 24 pianist Bryan Verhoye will perform a live soundtrack for the films. The Library features the Carlsbad Film Series the last three Wednesdays of every month. Follow the link for all the details.

October will be filled with laughs when Carlsbad City Library presents a free Buster Keaton film series. On October 17 and 24, pianist Bryan Verhoye will perform a live soundtrack for the films. The Buster Keaton film series will take place at Carlsbad City Library’s Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium at 1775 Dove Lane in southern Carlsbad. Admission is free. For more information, call (760) 602-2012.
04MWednesday, October 17 at 6pm: The Navigator (1924, run time 59 minutes) “The Navigator” is a classic of the Golden Age of Comedy. Keaton stars as Rollo Treadway, a rich young man of little experience. He finds himself adrift on “The Navigator,” a 500-foot yacht, with no one but an equally naive girl. Together they face the misadventures that befall them on the high seas.
54MWednesday, October 24 at 6pm: Go West (1925, run time 69 minutes) Without a job, family or acquaintances, Friendless (Buster Keaton) decides to sell all his worldly belongings and hop a freight train to New York City to seek his fortune. After several misadventures, he soon finds himself the only person on a Los Angeles bound train with 1000 cows.

Wednesday, October 31 at 6pm: Speak Easily (1932, run time 82 minutes) A “talkie” featuring Buster Keaton and Jimmy Durante. Naive Professor Potts (Keaton) decides to quit his job, withdraw his life savings and travel. He meets a traveling vaudeville troupe and is convinced by the piano player (Durante) that their show’s a success. This turns out to be a big mistake!
