Musical Guest: Steve Weingart

Steve Weingart has been carving out his place in the jazz world for the past twenty years.

Following his introduction to the world of improvisation at the College Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Weingart moved to Los Angeles in 1994 to expand his musical opportunities. He soon found himself as the first call keyboardist in L.A. where he began working with fusion drummer Dave Weckl. He toured the world with Weckl’s band and wrote/co-wrote songs on several of his albums.

Steve met and became widely known for his work with L.A. guitar session legend Steve ‘Luke’ Lukather (Toto, Los Lobotomys), with whom he spent time as a touring bandmate, musical director and recording artist. This partnership found him sharing the stage with many legendary musicians, including: Randy Brecker, Bill Evans, Robben Ford, Darryl Jones, Rodney Holmes, Vinnie Colaiuta, Tal Wilkenfeld, Kenny Aronoff, Fabrizio Grossi, Victor Wooten, and Lenny Castro. Additionally, Steve has had numerous collaborations with drummer Simon Phillips (Toto, Jeff Beck, The Who, Stanley Clarke).

Musical Guest: Renee Jones

In knowing Steve, it’s impossible to not know his wife, Renee Jones.

Renee and Steve first met in high school, and even worked together musically as soloists (oboe and piano) in a school performance of Edvard Grieg’s ‘Concerto in A Minor’. Early in their relationship, they discovered a lot in common musically. They both enjoyed the music of Weather Report, Jaco Pastorius, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Chicago, endless Motown hits, and popular music of the 70s and 80s.

Renee became a permanent member Steve ‘Luke’ Lukather’s band when Steve recommended her to Luke when the bass chair became available. Her abilities as a bass player and singer made her a natural fit for the band.

Music is a mainstay in their daily lives and a project like “Weingart & Jones” was a logical next step. Over the years, Renee has written many pieces of music, and developed her skills as a composer. These characteristics, and their great friendship led to a very cohesive and fun musical partnership, which is easily heard in the music of their albums ‘Dialogue’ and ‘Observatory’.
