TGIF Jazz June 22: Eddie “Devil Boy” Turner

by The Editors on June 17, 2007

Img 8212VThis Friday evening (June 22, 2007) from 6-8 PM Carlsbad’s TGIF Jazz In The Parks kicks off it’s 22nd season with Eddie “Devil Boy” Turner at Stagecoach Park. Turner’s guitar work has been described as “otherworldly,” “scorching,” and “chilling.” If his website is any judge, then we’re pretty sure he’s been down to the crossroads, if you know what we mean.

His ethereal style is an amalgam of the Afro-Cuban rhythms of his heritage and the music that influenced him as a teenager: Chicago blues, jazz, r&b and psychedelic rock. The Cuban-born singer/guitarist cut his teeth in several rock bands contributing what Slate magazine describes as “spacey-yet-resounding solos.”

We’ll see you there Friday night.
