The Carlsbad Recreation Department’s Battle of the Bands winners, The Funky Kicks got the Rock The Library concert series rolling tonight at the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium at the Carlsbad Library on Dove Lane. We’ve seen their stickers showing up all over Carlsbadistan, so we thought we should go check them out.
An enthusiastic crown of more than 100 fans showed up to hear the local band groove out their set of original and cover songs. We were impressed. The band plays tight, clean, funky rock that get heads bouncing.
Those who didn’t get a change to catch the library show can see the band this weekend. Gregory Kellogg, the band’s lead singer, invited everyone to come here them play this weekend. “We’re playing on Saturday at the Calavera Hills Park. You know where that is right?” he said. “And then on Sunday we’re playing at the Oceanside Pier for the 420 Remix.”
