Carlsbad City Library Hosts Free Summer Concert Series
Featuring Quetzal and Los Pinguos
June 8 and August 17

Carlsbad City Library’s upcoming concert series will feature Quetzal on Sunday, June 8 and Los Pinguos on Sunday, August 17. Both performances begin at 2pm and take place in the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium at Carlsbad City Library on 1775 Dove Lane, in southern Carlsbad. Admission is free, with tickets given out at the door beginning at 1pm the day of the concert. For more information, call (760) 602-2012.

Quetzal is a Latin alternative band performing son, boleros, folk, blues and rock in English and Spanish. After the successful release of three albums, Quetzal, Sing the Real, and Worksongs (and subsequent shows alongside the likes of Los Lobos, Los Van Van, Ozomatli, andTaj
Mahal) Quetzal proved beyond a doubt their ability to play intimate clubs and large arenas alike without a hitch.

Los Pinguos came to the U.S. from cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, Argentina with a mix of Latin rhythms, performed with Spanish guitars, a Cuban Tres (guitar-like instrument), Peruvian cajón (box drum) and harmonizing vocals. Vivacious and infectious, their sound has claimed fans
worldwide. They appeared on the television show The Next Big Star, where they won the audience vote and took home the grand prize. Their music was featured in the Antonio Banderas film Imagining Argentina and in 2005 they were invited to the Sundance Film Festival to perform with Suzanne Vega.

Both concerts made possible by the Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation’s Robert H. Gartner Cultural Endowment Fund.

The Summer Concert Series supports the Library’s role as a community gathering place.
