PF Chang’s Mall Is OK With City Council

by The Editors on August 13, 2008

Last night the Carlsbad City Council approved a plan from Strategic Property Services Advisers for a PF Chang’s Chinese Bistro and a two-story, 44,000 square foot “complex of boutique clothing shops” (including H&M) across the street from the Carlsbad Premium Outlet stores on Paseo del Norte, according to a Barbara Henry story in the North County Times.

“That area has been waiting for a good (project) … and it seems that they have found something,” Councilman Mark Packard said before the council’s 4-0 vote, with Councilwoman Julie Nygaard absent.

If we’re going to have another mall in Carlsbad, it might as well be there.

Isn’t it about time that Carlsbad did something about that decrepit, abandoned property known as Plaza El Camino Real? Perhaps direct PF Changs — or anybody — to take over the empty May Co. buildings, or build something in the acres of weed-sprouted blacktop that encompass the remainder of the mall?

BTW, keep up the great posts… I love your perspective on Carsbad 🙂

I whole heartily agree with Erik. Its amazing the short sidedness of planners in the area. The Mall is slowly falling apart and with so much parking it is dying to be reborn. Too bad H&M isn’t thinking of moving in. Last thing the area near the Outlets needs is more parking lot and more traffic. Weekends will be a nightmare up that way, no thanks!

just what carlsbad needs, more boutique clothing shops. maybe they can add some antique shops too! how about some real diversity in food instead of an upscale chins…i don’t know, maybe another italian restaurant is just what this city needs. i think we only have about 40 right now.
