Hoehn Prop. 8 Protest Makes USA Today

by The Editors on December 22, 2008

Blacklistx-LargeLast March we mentioned that Robert Hoehn, the co-owner of Carlsbad’s Hoehn Motors donated $25,000 in support of banning gay marriage (Prop. 8). Recently, his business has been picketed and he’s not happy about it, according to a story in USA Today.

I just hate being pigeonholed as a hate monger or bigot,” says Robert Hoehn, who contributed $25,000 to the campaign for Prop 8, which amended California’s Constitution to exclude same-sex marriage. “I have friends in the gay community, and I don’t think any of them would say that. . . . Hoehn has seen protesters outside his Carlsbad, Calif., car dealerships, his name and business have appeared on websites publicizing donors, and he has received “the most vitriolic kinds of e-mails, letters and phone calls.”

Guess Mr. Hoehn is experiencing some of the costs associated with supporting legislation that denies the personal rights of others.

Mr. Hoehn’s decision to contribute to Yes On 8 has helped me and my husband to eliminate any Hoehn owned car dealers when I decide to purchase my next car. Thanks Robert! Your decision greatly simplified my car purchasing decision.

Get over it. I’ll buy an extra car from Hoehn.

Mr. Hoehn supported an effort that TOOK AWAY a group of people’s rights. He shouldn’t cry like a baby now that his business is experiencing the effects of his decision.

I live right around the corner from the Hoehn car empire, and I drove right past his Acura franchise last Saturday and bought a new car from an Acura dealership in Orange County.

I have no doubt Mr. Hoehn will lose plenty more sales. Will he make up for those lost sales with increased sales from pro-Prop 8 folks? Maybe. Maybe not. We’ll probably never know. But I sleep well knowing my money isn’t in Mr. Hoehn’s pocket.

Continue the boycott of all Hoehn companies!

Gays and lesbians are a much valued demographic for busnesses due to their above average purchasing power. No Hondas from Mr. Hoehn’s lot goin to the gays. Good one mr. businessman…
