Bressi Ranchers vs. TERI, Inc.

by The Editors on February 11, 2009

Iszx88Wawbqn4ZThe discussion over the Bressi Ranch home for autistic men continued last night at the Carlsbad City Council meeting according to a story in the San Diego Union-Tribune. A group of Bressi Ranch homeowners chided the City of Carlsbad for giving a $1 million grant to TERI, Inc. to buy a home in the upscale community.

The group, called The Concerned Homeowners, said it had no complaint with the four to six autistic adults who will live in the group home; the group was targeting the city’s process for awarding the grant. . . . It also said the nonprofit that is buying the home, the TERI Group, misrepresented itself in its grant application. . . . “This is not about discrimination. This not about us fighting the Fair Housing Act,” Dana Matas, a member of the group, told the council. . . . The group gave a presentation to the City Council titled, “Affordable Housing or Resort-Style Living,” in which it accused the city of wasting taxpayer funds.

The City Council, not surprisingly, stood by its decision.

Your article is taken out of context and inaccurate. The City gave TERI $795,000. The city should be applauded for supporting a 30 year old agency that serves 600 families in San Diego…..over 75 in carlsbad alone.

Yeah, autistic adults should only live in rat-infested hovels somewhere. Or at least in someone else’s neighborhood. Not yours, right?

You know what the great thing about McMansions is? THEY HAVE TONS OF BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS. Perfect for group homes. Big news, guys, this is happening all around the country. Repurposed McMansions as group homes, shared rentals for seniors and extended immigrant family flophouses are going to be the hip trend of the next decade.

The Bressi people need to get over themselves and their property values (and this IS about property values). The few people who actually BELIEVE that being autistic automatically makes you an obscene child rapist need to educate themselves.

Pathetic.

The ironic piece of this is that those autistic adults will probably be incredibly friendly with the kids.

I am British and we have laws against this type of behaviour. Now I think about it – there are also international laws!

The ‘Land of the Free’ is not as free as it likes everyone to belive or are these protesting citizans just living in Bressi?

Shame on you, Dana Matas. You need to get over yourself, and embrace change because the world would be a terrifying place if it were made of only small-minded, self-centered, little, bigots like you. Eyes Wide Shut,

Why would anybody be angry with money going to help our most vulnerable citizens? What kind of evil person doesn’t see this as a good thing? The same people who were angry about this are probably the same type of people who would be thrilled if the city gave the grant to a bunch of black transgenders. Weeeeeeeeee I love liberals
