Man Shot In The Head In Carlsbad

by The Editors on February 22, 2009

An 18-year-old man was shot in the head “near a party” in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to a story in the North County Times.

Officers responded to the 2300 block of Pio Pico Drive shortly after 12:25 a.m. and found numerous possible witnesses. Police later learned the victim had been taken by companions to a local hospital. They said the shooting took place in the street. . . . Detectives early Saturday morning were interviewing witnesses and examining the scene. No information about any suspects was provided in the statement.

The name of the victim was not revealed because police suspect the shooting may be “gang-related.”

This happened right around the corner from my house – just after midnight a car parked on our street and the occupants were loud – it woke us up. A few minutes later, we heard the gunshots. To hear something like that in this quiet little close knit neighborhood was beyond shocking. So was what happened next.
Droves, and I do mean droves of people (that the police said were gang members) began walking up our street. Groups of 25, followed by 50 – intoxicated, loud – we kept calling the police and were told it was being handled. I’m not sure what about over 100 drunk people, possibly including the shooter, documented gang members, walking through the yards and streets of this neighboorhood through 3:30am is “handled” but that’s what we were told.
