Carlsbadistan resident Barbara Henkel was sitting in her car sipping coffee with a friend at about 10:15 PM on February 3, 2009 when she saw something strange moving through the Chevy’s Restaurant parking lot in Del Mar, according to a story in the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Walking toward us was this seal. It was just a surreal moment,” she said. She called 911 while her friend followed the sea lion to prevent him from getting hit by a car. At one point, the yearling scurried and hid under a patrol car. Police said he appeared to have minor injuries and was trembling. . . .“We couldn’t get our heads around how he possibly traveled that far,” Henkel said.
This was the second time the pup had made a run for it. Last month he was picked up in Solana Beach, according to the paper. He is apparently back at SeaWorld for his second rehab. Come to think of it, maybe he just wants to be a performer in one of their dancing animal shows.
