The U-T Likes NVA’s Things We Want

by The Editors on September 22, 2009

Uti1471370 T350San Diego Union-Tribune writer James Hebert gave Carlsbadistan’s New Village Arts Theatre’s production of Things We Want a good review today.

What really makes “Things We Want” spin, though (under Berger’s deft direction), is the way the brothers end up trading personas and pathologies over the course of the play. They cope with the traumas they’ve been dealt as best they can, and Sherman doesn’t try to pretend they can transcend their past with a snap of the fingers. . . But in this strange (and strangely entertaining play), they do reach some truce in the war within their hearts. . . As Teddy puts it: “I’m not happy. I just have better regrets than most people.”

Things We Want runs through October 11, 2009. Click here for tickets or here for more information.
