Hash House Harriers Run Carlsbad

by The Editors on March 12, 2010

Lah3 HareThe Hash House Harriers of Southern California, a running group whose members reportedly include the mother and stepfather of John Gardner, the man accused of raping and murdering seventeen-year-old Chelsea King, will be holding an event in Carlsbad on Saturday, March 20, 2010.

The run, with the unfortunate title of 16th Anal Humpin Bar2Bar – ‘Sorority Sleepover,’ kicks off in McGee park at “around 11” according to the group’s website.

This same group held a run in the Rancho Bernardo Community Park on December 27, 2009 three hours after a 22-year-old college student was attacked in the park. It is the same park where Chelsea King was running when she disappeared. John Gardner was charged with “assault with the intent to rape” in that attack according to a story in the San Diego Union-Tribune. The story goes on to say that there is no evidence that Gardner participated in the run.

I don’t believe you people. There is zero point of this story besides advocating some lunatic does something crazy to people who have nothing to do with a girl being murdered. When does the parent’s book reading club gather next? I heard they read a naughty book. We need to make sure we target them as well.

Why don’t you believe it? click on the link — the story is real.

Channel 10 had an expose’ on it — it’s not a “book reading club”. I don’t want them here and I think they were irresponsible in letting their son live with them.

If you don’t like them, then don’t run with them. They’re an informal trail running club that’s been around worldwide for over 70 years.

Yes, the accused (and not yet convicted, by the way) murderer sounds like a very despicable person if the accusations are proven at trial. Harassment of the associates of his parents at completely unrelated social/sporting events is beyond stupid.

The objectives of this group are:

(a) To promote physical fitness amongst its members.
(b) To get rid of weekend hangovers.
(c) To acquire a good thirst and to satisfy it in beer.
(d) To persuade the older members that they are not as old as they feel.

Nothing more, nothing less. It’s been that way since 1938.
So if you:
Want to be physically unfit
Enjoy weekend hangovers
Don’t like beer *
Want to feel old

then don’t participate.

* You really don’t even have to like beer. The hash house harriers don’t force anyone to drink alcohol. Water and soda are always available.

If you found out his parents were Baptists, would you vigilante creeps target Baptist churches? If they were chess players, would you picket chess clubs?

You tell ’em Gispert! I totally agree.

go gispert. i also agree with you 100%

I agree with Gispert 100%

The Hash House Harriers have nothing to do with this case. It is a running club that likes to drink and have fun.

The parents of John Gardner also are not a part of this case. Be angry at the accused! Stop bringing other people and what they do to have fun into this.

You don’t know what you would do as a parent. If you have a son and he does something horrible and stupid and serves his time, would you not let your son live with you when he has no where to go. His parents were being parents by letting their son live with them that’s it. Stop digging into the lives of the parents of the accused.

I think people are crazy to believe that it is ok to stop talking about the horrible thing that happened and the possible horrible person that did it, but start talking about two people that have nothing to do with it. Or a group that has nothing to do with this!

It’s not ok to ruin a persons life that has done nothing wrong!!

John Gardner did not live with his mom and stepfather.

John Gardner did not go running with the Hash House Harriers.

The only time the San Diego Hashers and John Gardner crossed paths was at a Thanksgiving dinner.

There isn’t a story here, except that some web vigilantes hacked into a website, stole a picture of John Gardner at a Thanksgiving dinner, stole some pictures of some Spring Break-like behavior from a campout (which John did not attend nor had anything to do with), and then stitched this together into an silly account that they sold to the news.

The police and FBI saw no connections here and didn’t investigate anything further.

Wanna find some sick people? Look into the web vigilantes’ lives. That is turning out to be very interesting already.

Did I mention that John Gardner did not live with his mom and stepfather?

Gispert it right on.

I think the comments above are all right on, with the exception of the terribly ignorant “love to run”. Not only is this club innocent and undeserving of being associated with such a horrible crime, but they have been loving and generous in their support for their friends who are suffering. I sincerely hope that Miss King’s family has as strong of a support system.

Most of the news reports say he did live with them for a time. I don’t advocate vigilante-ism — NOWHERE in my comments did I advocate doing anything to them. Someone said the news report wasn’t true — I posted that it was.

Yes, sex offenders need to live somewhere. But don’t give me the pity party about them “being parents” by “letting their son live with them”. They allowed him to live with them, but there was no record of him registering as a sex offender at their address. So, in that way they were aiding and abetting a criminal.

Perhaps if you knew the families of the victims you wouldn’t be so quick to defend these people. But again, I did NOT advocate any actions toward them — I’m just rather disgusted by them. To each their own.

I have been a member of this running club and it was a GREAT group of people who accept everyone for however they are. They have fun while keeping very fit…they joke about being a drinking club but in reality, these are some of the best runners and some of the most friendly people I have known. The fact that one of their members has a child that obviously has a psychiatric issue has nothing to do with the club. As for letting the guy live with his mother…what mother wouldn’t want to try to help their son? You can’t even begin to think that she had any idea that he was capable of doing such a horendous thing! There really is often no way to predict who will end up doing these horrible things. I had a dental school instructor who had a son that went on a rampage and killed multiple folks of particular ethnic or religious backgrounds. Were his parents attacked for this? Perhaps all dentists should come under attack for that? Silly, I know…but no more silly than dragging the HHH into this mess.

John Gardner did not live with his mom and stepfather.

John Gardner did not go running with the Hash House Harriers.

“Love to Run” — get that through your head. And spread the word to the rest of your voyeuristic klan.

End of story.
