Pop-Up: The 10 Hour Art Gallery

10 Hr Phantom LogoThe Carlsbad Village Association will be host an art pop-up for 10 hours at 538 Grand Avenue (formerly Chandler’s) during Thursdays On the Coast on March 24, 2011.

Displaying in the gallery will be art, photography, jewelry, glass, ceramics, silks and an energy like no other. A demonstration of silk painting will be out front with Marjorie Pezzoli while across the street located in front of Paradise Cottage a fellow artist who is one of the quickest watercolor painters, Steve Alan, will be exhibiting his techniques. . . “This had been an amazing collaboration of communication and logistics. The eagerness of all the artists to come together in such a short time is a welcomed sight. Those that missed the opportunity are already lining up to get involved in this new experience. No pun intended on the words, but it keeps popping up in many conversations with local business and others alike, the renaming of the Thursdays on the Coast, The Experience is well suited,” stated Event Manager, Cheryl Ehlers.

Carlsbad, CA…The Carlsbad Village Association presents a new concept by creating a real phantom twist to the upcoming Thursdays on the Coast , The Experience., March 24th, 5:30 – 8:30pm.

35 local artists have collaborated in an opening of a 10 hour Gallery. They will open the day of the event at 10am and run throughout the event until 9am

Offered a vacant shop, located at 538 Grand Avenue, they are creating a “10 Hr Art Gallery”,.a real phantom. store. Displaying in the gallery will be art, photography, jewelry, glass, ceramics, silks and an energy like no other. A demonstration of silk painting will be out front with Marjorie Pezzoli while across the street located in front of Paradise Cottage a fellow artist who is one of the quickest watercolor painters, Steve Alan, will be exhibiting his techniques.

Musicians will be playing during the evening of the event. and in the 10 hour Gallery a new young upstart, Alex Kurth is ready to show his stuff, followed by Benny Jackson and his Jazz trio to the enjoyment of many.

Artists are always in needs of a place to exhibit, sell and share in their experiences. “The energy that surrounds artistic creativity can be infectious” stated Avra Alexiades, a world traveled artist, and one of the participants. This opportunity was one that they just could not pass upon. Participating artists feel is it a great time to collaborate, enjoy themselves, share in their experiences and create an atmosphere that will give back to the community and create a fun place to visit. They are ready, willing and able to share their talents and enthusiasm in being an artist.

As the days near they will be camping out to get a great spot in the gallery to hang and display art for sale. Excited about the results they are looking forward to this first attempt as being a success. If this model works, and the artists are willing, the Carlsbad Village Association with provide the opportunity to create one day galleries around town during Thursdays on the Coast events as openings arise.

Mayor Matt Hall said, “Last year’s Thursdays on the Coast events were just a beginning of new and great happenings in the Village. I look forward to spending time downtown during the TOTC events this season and exploring. I always have a fantastic time. It is great to mingle with friends and meet new acquaintances while exploring the Village. I’m inviting all of our Carlsbad residents to visit the Village on 4th Thursdays, March to October. Everyone will have a lot of fun”!

“The city needs an infusion of new ideas and event opportunities affording everyone the opportunity to thrive and grow. One such opportunity was to provide local artists a venue for art and create an atmosphere for artists and business to unite. We would like to draw more of the arts to our city and develop into a community visitors would like to explore”, states Gary Nessim of HomeLife Village Realtors.

Come Join them in the daytime and on the evening of the event, start by picking up your self-guided programs at the Foundry Studios at New Village Arts on 2787 State Street and enjoy the evening filled with art, music, shopping and dining.

The Carlsbad Village Association (CVA) is a 501(c) 6 corporation. Originally founded as the Village Merchants Association in 1974, the organization was incorporated in 1994 as The Carlsbad Village Business Association (CVBA) and in July 2009 consolidated with the Carlsbad Village Improvement Partnership to create The Carlsbad Village Association.
