CEF Makes Legoland Affordable For A Half Day

by The Editors on April 16, 2012

Celebrate CarlsbadThanks to a special deal created through a partnership between the Carlsbad Education Foundation and Legoland called Celebrate Carlsbad Day local families will have the chance to purchase advance tickets to visit Legoland on April 28, 2012 (after 1 PM) for $20 (a price locals should get all year).

The annual Celebrate Carlsbad Day at LEGOLAND® will be held on Saturday, April 28th. Specially-priced $20 LEGOLAND tickets include admission starting at 1:00 pm with park hours extended to 9:00 and a special fireworks display at 8:30. SEA LIFE Aquarium tickets are also available at a discounted rate of $6 each. Parking is $12 at the gate. . . Live student performances and donor recognition will take place from 3:00 to 5:00 on a stage in Miniland USA. LEGOLAND will donate a portion of the event proceeds to the Carlsbad Educational Foundation (CEF) to support district-wide science initiatives at Carlsbad schools.

Yes, it’s amazing to us that Legoland won’t allow a full day in the park for $20, but we guess the Carlsbad Education Foundation has to take what they can get. Tickets must be purchased in advance by calling the CEF office at (760) 929-1555 or by emailing Patty@CarlsbadEd.org

An even better way to support the Carlsbad Education Foundation is to make a direct donation. Click here for more info. Or, follow the jump for the official word from the CEF. [click to continue…]

Legoland Too Expensive Everywhere

by The Editors on December 8, 2011

Legoland MyTurns out we’re not the only one’s who think Legoland prices are outrageously expensive. The Malaysian Tourists Guides Council says the entrance fees to Asia’s first ever Legoland Malaysia theme park in Johor Baru are, surprise, “Too high for locals,” according to a story on The Star.

He said Legoland Malaysia should have a two-tier ticket system to cater to both locals and foreigners. . . “Other places of interest, like the cable car ride in Langkawi or the Istana Muzium here, have implemented such a system,” he told The Star yesterday.

Yeah. What he said. It appears that when the park opens “at the end of 2012” Legoland Malaysia’s prices will be almost worth considering for a Carlsbadistan family of four. At current exchange rates adults will pay about $44 a day visit the park, while here in Carlsbad it costs $72.

Legoland’s Ronchetti’s Parking Spot Blocked

by The Editors on June 20, 2011

Legoland California General Manager Peter Ronchetti was in for a little surprise when he left for lunch today. Seems the Legoland model shop replaced his Volvo XC60 with an exact replica made entirely out of Legos. The replacement car weighed 2,934 pounds, but it doesn’t look like it drives very well. We’re guessing Ronchetti has never been blocked into his parking spot like that before.

Legoland’s $248 Water Safety Lessons

by The Editors on May 31, 2011

Lego WaterparkWant your child to learn about American Red Cross water safety at the Legoland Waterpark this June? Then the Whale Tales program might be for you. Like all things at Legoland, however, you’ll need a whale sized wallet. First of all the child must get in to the park. If you have a $99 pass for your child and a $129 pass for yourself, then the four-day, eight-hour program will only cost you $40. Without the passes it will only cost $240 for one child, and that’s with Legoland’s.

The four-day WHALE Tales course is taught by LEGOLAND certified lifeguards and covers basic water safety and more. Sessions are Monday-Thursday, 4-6 p.m. June 6-9; June 13-16; June 20-23. Call 760-918-5347 for more information.

Or, you could just pay $50 and get the same thing at the Monroe Street Pool without all the Lego brand indoctrination The choice is yours.

Legoland Delivers A $9.99 Holiday Deal

by The Editors on December 22, 2010

App Full Proxy.PhpWe’re usually pretty hard on Legoland California for what we think are their normally outrageous ticket prices, but from now until Christmas Day tickets to Legoland are only $9.99 per person.

That’s right. Not $59, but $9.99 That is reason enough to go. In fact, we’re thinking we’ll probably visit the theme park for our third time ever.

The deal was announced today on Twitter (@legoland_ca) and as might be imaged rocketed through the social web. Click the graphic for all the details or visit the Legoland facebook page.

Legoland Gets Saucy For The Holidays

by The Editors on November 18, 2010

Brooke-Burke4Legoland California certainly knows how to line up the naughties for the Holiday season. Yesterday, The Rockettes from Radio City Music Hall were kicking up their skirts around the Lego Christmas tree, and today we find out that Dancing With The Stars’ hottie mommy Brooke Burke will be lighting the Christmas tree this year.

According to a Legloland tweet:

So thrilled that @brookeburke will be here @LEGOLAND_CA 11/29 to light our 30-foot-tall LEGO Christmas Tree!

Apparently, Legoland is aiming at lighting a little more than a tree with this news. Not really sure why a family resort is so into women who paint their nude bodies and pose for photos, but bored daddies seem to be the direct target. If you can entice the guy with the wallet apparently the rest of the family will fall right in line.

Legoland’s Award Winning Water Park

by The Editors on October 12, 2010

Legolandwaterpark1

Legoland California is proud to announce that they have been awarded an Industry Innovation Award from the World Waterpark Association. The news came out last Thursday and was obviously overshadowed by more serious news. Things are safe again and Lego is still very proud.

“The fact that our Water Park is LEGO themed and geared toward young children and their families is what truly separates LEGOLAND Water Park from any other water park in the world,” said General Manager of LEGOLAND California Resort Peter Ronchetti. “I’m glad to say the reaction has been very positive and despite the rather untraditional summer weather and continuing economic stress in the market, we have had a very strong season and will be once again reporting record attendance numbers for LEGOLAND California Resort this year.”

Private Equity Firm To Buy Into Legoland Parent

by The Editors on June 21, 2010

Merlin LogoFollowing who exactly owns Carlsbadistan’s Legoland California theme park gets even more fun today as both Reuters and the Wall Street Journal are reporting that Luxembourg-based CVC Capital Partners is buying a 30 percent stake in Legoland (and SeaWorld) parent company Merlin Entertainments.

The deal would value Merlin Entertainments at about 2.5 billion pounds ($3.71 billion), one of the sources said, with CVC Capital Partners, Blackstone and Kirkbi A/S — the Danish investment company owned by the family behind the Lego brand — owning about 30 percent of the business each. . . Management will own the remaining portion, while Dubai International Capital, which reduced its stake earlier this year from about 16.5 percent to single digits will fully exit the business that counts Madame Tussauds and Legoland among its attractions, sources said.

It’s totally confusing and has little effect on the Carlsbadistan park, but we like to stay current just for fun.

Legoland Takes SeaLife To The Mall

by The Editors on May 27, 2010

Lg Opxjgf.JpgLegoland’s parent Merlin Entertainments is taking the whole SeaLife Aquarium concept to the America’s malls, according to a story in the Fort Worth Business Press.

The city of Grapevine [Texas] and The Mills, a division of the Simon Co. that owns Grapevine Mills Mall, signed an agreement with Merlin Entertainments to open the Sea Life aquarium attraction at the mall in the summer of 2011. The attraction will be located directly across from Merlin’s Legoland Discovery Centre, a $12 million Lego attraction announced last year and set to open at Grapevine Mills mall in March 2011.

Sounds like at least a few Texan’s won’t have to make the long trip to Carlsbadistan to see submerged Lego men swimming with sharks. Can’t say we’ll miss them.

Legoland Water Park Opens Friday

by The Editors on May 26, 2010

[Waterpark]452X297 Key

Legoland California only presented their water park plans to the City of Carlsbad in September 2009 saying it would be open by summer and it appears that they’ve stayed right on track. Starting Friday, May 28, 2010 the world’s first Legoland Water Park will be open to the public from 10 AM to 5 PM each day (click here for full schedule).

Guests will explore eight areas of the 5.5 acre water wonderland including Orange Rush, a family tube slide where up to four people can ride together down a 312-foot long curving track on an 11-foot in diameter half pipe; Twin Chasers, two side-by-side enclosed red tube slides that stretch nearly 130 feet, Splash Out, an open body slide that invites guests to slide 240 feet and “splash out” into the water below; Joker Soaker, a fun interactive platform in the wade pool where kids can aim water cannons at each other as a LEGO jester model tells jokes and pours 350 gallons of water down upon them; a one-of-a-kind concept, Build-A-Raft River, where kids customize their own raft made of soft LEGO bricks before floating down a lazy river; Kid Creek, a lazy river built with younger kids in mind and DUPLO® Splash Safari, a water play area designed especially for toddlers with three small slides and interactive DUPLO creatures including an alligator, polar bear and an elephant.

But how much does it cost? Glad you asked. It’s only $77 for adults and $67 for kids 3 – 12. Huh? That’s right – the only way to visit the water park is to visit Legoland and pay extra for the slides. For locals with a season pass ($159 for adults, $129 for kids) it’s free. . . kinda.
