On August 2-4, 2014 Carlsbad’s soccer retailer soccerloco is hosting the 34th Annual San Diego soccerloco Surf Cup. And yeah, it’s a pretty big deal.

The 2014 tournament will host over 400 college coaches and scouts. This is not only one of the most sought-after title accolades in youth soccer but it is also one of the largest, with over a hundred different clubs flying in and traveling to the beautifully polished Del Mar polo fields. One of the competing clubs at the event this year stems from Carlsbad’s very own community, the Carlsbad United FC. The most important aspect of this tournament is not necessarily about winning but it is more so about building teamwork skills and networking with some of the best within the local soccer community.

Soccerloco’s President Jon Lococo is proud to be associated with the event. “This event is a big part of the San Diego community culture and we are really looking forward to seeing all the clubs come out and play,” says Lococo.

The Carlsbad Triathlon Needs Voluteers

by The Editors on May 27, 2014

Triathlon Volunteers
Personally, we don’t know why someone would want to ruin a perfectly good bike ride by preceding it by swimming or following it with a run (Rule # 42), but there are those who do and on Saturday and Sunday, July 12 -13, 2014 there will be an ocean load of them here right here for the annual Carlsbad Triathlon. The City of Carlsbad needs help making sure all these people are headed in the right direction. They need volunteers.

Volunteer opportunities for the Lifestyle and Fitness Festival, taking place Saturday, July 12, include checking in athletes and handing out goodie bags. Body marking, assisting with timing at the finish line and passing out refreshments at the hospitality booth are among race day volunteer opportunities on Sunday, July 13. . . “Even if you may not want to swim, bike or run in the Carlsbad Triathlon, you can still play a key role in the exciting race weekend as a volunteer,” said Sue Irey, volunteer coordinator for the City of Carlsbad.

If you’d like to spend the day hanging out with extremely fit, barely clothed people this could be your lucky day. Follow the jump for more info. [click to continue…]

Lake Calavera Trails Clean Up Day

by The Editors on September 10, 2013

Lake Calavera Trail Cleanup

On Saturday, September 28, 2013 the City of Carlsbad is going out to Lake Calavera and groom our mountain bike trails for us as a way of celebrating National Public Lands Day and we’d all like your help.

Volunteers will assist in planting approximately 300 native plants in a one-acre restoration site and help with other trail work. City staff will be on hand to assist with the activities and to provide information on trail maintenance and restoration. Those who attend will also learn about the boardwalk trails being built this winter and can hike any of the six miles of trails within the preserve. . . “Every day is a good day to celebrate the extensive 46 miles of trails available to the Carlsbad community,” says Liz Ketabian, City of Carlsbad park planning manager. “But once a year in September, the city welcomes the opportunity to join with other communities nationwide in a special day of volunteer activities focused on appreciating public lands throughout the country.”

If someone could smooth out the trail on that left hander at the bottom of Flirting With Death Speed Check DH we’re pretty sure we can get nail down a KOM on Strava. For more information on how you can help make our mountain bike rides smoother, faster, better, stronger, please follow the jump. [click to continue…]
