Carlsbad Mayor Pro Tem Ann J. Kulchin, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Rick Sapp, Head of School Dr. Eileen Mullady, Assistant Head of School Bob Ogle, Director of Finance Philip Hitch cut the ribbon.
Carlsbadistan’s Pacific Ridge School celebrated the official opening of their new 32,500-square-foot high school building on August 31, 2010 and it seems like everyone was there.
. . . more than 800 students, parents, faculty, community members, and local constituents gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the school’s new 32,500-square-foot high school building. . . With global engagement and ethical responsibility as cornerstones of the Pacific Ridge School mission, the building was designed to be environmentally friendly and sustainable. The green project design features passive air conditioning methods, passive light shelves, Crestron lighting controls, solar tube skylights, solar shading, roofing reflectance techniques, bioswales, and a number of other green building and site components.
Nothing but the best for Pacific Ridge. Maybe if we keep playing the lottery we’ll be able to send our kids here someday. But then we’ll just get dinged with four years at Stanford, Harvard, or Yale. Follow the jump for the official release.

Carlsbadistan’s Lancers opened the 2010 season and officially broke in the new Swede Krcmar Field with a 21-12 win over Saint Augustine.
Two blocked field goals, solid defense, potent passing and running offense and a loud home crowd pulled the Lancers to a strong win.

Appy Entertainment, our favorite Carlsbadistan Village-based IOS game developers were pretty stoked when Steve Jobs announced on Wednesday that the new Apple iPod Touch comes standard with a front facing camera because that means that Appy’s FaceFighter game finally works perfectly on the device.

The Museum of Making Music’s 10th Anniversary Celebration Series continues at 7 PM Friday, September 10, 2010 with a concert by composer, guitarist, vocalist and arranger Chico Pinheiro, along with vocalist Luciana Alves, drummer Celso Alberti, and bassist Scott Thompson.
A leading figure in the contemporary Brazilian music scene and a remarkable international presence, Pinheiro is an exceptional guitarist with great fluidity, and a composer of originality and maturity.

The Carlsbad Republican Women Federated have invited all of the City Council Candidates (Jon Wantz, Farrah Douglas, Dr. Mark Packard, and William Jubb) to a candidates forum on Tuesday afternoon, September 28, 2010 at the Hilton Garden Inn. A morning session will feature candidates for City Treasurer. Being a Republican is not required, but an RSVP is for the $25 “plated lunch”.

Thanks to the charismatic leadership of music teacher Katie Browne, the Aviara Middle School Band in Carlsbad added 90 beginning music students to its roster this year. The school is scrambling to provide instruments for all those eager students. It will try to use Booster Club funds to purchase instruments, but is concerned that this will take away from the scholarships that it provides for uniforms and materials for students with financial hardship. Mrs. Browne is asking for donations of used band instruments to help get those ninety enthusiastic band geeks playing!
To make a donation please contact Bridget Smith at familyadventureguidebooks-at-gmail.com. Of course monetary donations are also welcome, since some kids are dreaming of playing the less readily available instruments like the oboe or the soprano sax.
Carlsbad is always a generous community and middle school as well all know is not an easy time of life. Let’s show these budding musicians some support!

There’s an old saying that to get elected to public office in Carlsbad, you have to be a Republican.
So it isn’t surprising that the two leading candidates seeking to replace Mayor Bud Lewis, who is retiring after a 24-year reign, are both Republicans who actively sought the endorsement of both the local party and its Lincoln Club offshoot, a group of mostly business leaders whose mission, according to its website, is to “advance free market principles and ideas by recruiting, endorsing, and financing business-friendly candidates and ballot measures.”
In the end, veteran councilman Matt Hall got the endorsement of both groups—which rarely happens in a race that pits a Republican against a fellow Republican. But in this case, freshman councilman Keith Blackburn is being actively supported by two public-employee unions, the “associations” representing Carlsbad firefighters and police officers, and as we all know unions are anathema to any red-blooded GOP partisan.
