Dentists Give Back To Boys And Girls Clubs

by The Editors on September 11, 2012

Dds Gives BackDr. Brandon Bell along with his father, Dr. Geoffrey Bell, of Bell Family Dentistry in Carlsbad (right) came up with an interesting way to donate money to the Carlsbad Boys & Girls club while at the same time encouraging their new patients to be on time and complete their paper work properly.

For every new patient that arrived for their first appointment on time with the appropriate paperwork completed, $5 was earmarked to give to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad. . . . “The dentists surprised us by presenting a $500 donation to support our programs,” said Club CEO Brad Holland. “What a fantastic idea, and we’re grateful to their diligent patients as well.”

For the Bell’s it was apparently a win-win.

“It’s an honor to contribute to the community that has given us so much on behalf of our patients,” stated Dr. Brandon Bell. “The program has proven to be so successful motivating our patients and helping us to treat them in a more timely and efficient manner, while raising money to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad. It’s truly a win-win situation, and this is just the beginning of a long relationship!”

The Riehl World: City Video More Fat Less Filling

by Richard J. Riehl on September 6, 2012

Carlsbadians who couldn’t afford the $85-a-plate Chamber of Commerce State of the City report luncheon at the Sheraton last month were invited to a free showing of a ten-minute video at the Dove Library a few days later. Former Mayor Bud Lewis didn’t like to give or listen to long speeches, so he turned to videos to serve as the annual report to city residents. Mayor Matt Hall continued the tradition, sacrificing information for feel-good entertainment.

Sinclair Lewis would have smiled at the unbridled boosterism of Carlsbad city officials featured in this year’s State of the City video. He’d be reminded of the self-satisfied city fathers of Zenith, Babbit’s fictional Midwestern hometown. But Carlsbad residents were shortchanged if they expected to get more than a virtual pep rally from their city’s annual report. [click to continue…]
