Boys & Girls Clubs Teach Swimming Free

by The Editors on March 3, 2015

Swimlessons

For the past two years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad California has been making sure the young members of its community stay safe when in and around water.

Among children under 15, drowning is the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related deaths. In Carlsbad, there are many children who live within a mile of the ocean but do not know how to swim.

“As a member of the Carlsbad community, the Boys & Girls Club recognizes the importance of water safety classes for youth, and we are fortunate to offer these classes regardless of a family’s financial situation,” said Aquatics Coordinator Laura Smith. “This is an important life skill, and I feel fortunate that I can be a part of a program that fosters continued development of water skills and confidence.”

The Club is currently looking for a sponsor to continue this important program. In the past funding for this free program was provided by LA84, Toyota Carlsbad, and the Sempra Energy Giving Fund. For more information, please follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Señor Grubby’s Hosts The Carlsbad Art Wall

by The Editors on March 2, 2015

Snyder Grubbys
Señor Grubby’s Justin Jachura and art collaborator Bryan Synder.

A collaboration between Señor Grubby’s and Carlsbad Village street artist Bryan Snyder will see the work of selected LA street artists featured on Grubby’s East wall over the coming months. According to Snyder the goal of the Carlsbad Art Wall is to:

. . . serve as a conduit between aspiring artists and professional artists, to provide a platform to engage and educate the Carlsbad community in the creative act of large scale public painting and to introduce a variety of new art and creative processes to the Carlsbad community. . . The project begins with Los Angles street artist Bumblebeelovesyou. Through artwork including large scale stencil portraits of children and beehive installations in abandoned phone booths, Bumblebeelovesyou brings attention to children homelessness and the impact of modernity on nature. His artwork is is whimsical, playful and exudes a sense of childish innocence, freedom and joy.

Each month a new artist will take over the wall to share their own view of the world around them. The Carlsbad Art Wall kicks off on Friday March 6, 2015 at Señor Grubby’s. Señor Grubby’s is located at 377 Carlsbad Village Dr, in Carlsbad, California.
