Bike to Work Day

Friday, May 20, 2016 is Bike To Work Day and if you’re participating (and you should) then stop by one of the seven Carlsbad Bike To Work pits stops.

· The seawall at Frazee Beach at Carlsbad Boulevard and Pine Avenue
· The Zone 5 Park along Faraday Avenue
· 24 Hour Fitness, Palomar Airport Road at College Boulevard
· Velofix, Palomar Airport Road and Carlsbad Boulevard
· ViaSat, 6155 El Camino Real
· Swami’s Cycling Club, Carlsbad Boulevard southbound at Ponto Beach
· Lululemon Athletica, 1923 Calle Barcelona

The pit stops will be open from 6-9 AM and, if you’ve signed up online at www.icommutesd.com, you can pick up your free Bike To Work T-shirt and maybe a $5 gift certificate to the restaurants at The Island at Carlsbad. For the complete details, follow the jump.

Bike to Work Day, organized regionally by SANDAG, promotes bicycling as a healthy, economical and environmentally friendly commute choice. While supplies last, cyclists will receive snacks, beverages and other giveaways at the pit stop. The first 35 visitors to each of the seven Carlsbad pit stops will receive a $5 coupon good for the month of May at the restaurants at the Island at Carlsbad food court, located at the corner of Van Allen Way and Faraday.

Also on May 20, cyclists are invited to enjoy a Bike to Work celebration featuring the music of San Diego performers Cassie B Project from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Island at Carlsbad food court, located at 5814 Van Allen Way. The Cassie B project, one of San Diego’s most popular bands, is known for its danceable music and covers of Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars songs.

Additionally, information will be available about Carlsbad Walks and Carlsbad Bikes, programs that developed from the city’s SANDAG grant funded program Walk + Bike Carlsbad. Carlsbad Walks and Carlsbad Bikes is led by the City of Carlsbad, Circulate San Diego and the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition to promote walking and biking around Carlsbad.

Ongoing improvements to city streets to install new bike lanes or widen existing bike lanes continue to make Carlsbad more bike-friendly. These improvements increase transportation options and opportunities for healthy recreation as well as benefitting business and tourism in our community.
