Tamarack Surf Beach Sign Before & After

Tamarack Signba

We still don’t really know what happened to the old Tamarack Surf Beach Sign at the corner of Carlsbad Blvd and Tamarck. We know one thing for sure: the new sign is no comparison. Ugly, ugly, ugly. Thanks, Arnold!

The color of the sign says it all: vanilla. The drive to standardize and sanitize everything is shallow and stifling.

And they probably trashed the old sign. If there was a real reason to replace it, they could definitely have auctioned it off or displayed it somewhere.

Maybe they donated it to the 101 Surf Museum.

Does anyone know what happened to it?

I think the original sign was stolen. All that was left of it for a long time were big splinters around the top screws. It looked like it have been pulled off.

We’ll see where it goes, but I sent the pictures, old and new, to the CA State Parks commission. I asked for information on where the old sign went and why it was replaced with such a dismal sign!

We’ll see what kind of response I get.

I hope who ever has it in their backyard or garage is enjoying it.

I hope someone makes a new sign. You can see a similar carved sign at Swamis. Do you know who makes those signs? It would be nice to have a new one. If it was stolen, it is in someone’s backyard or garage.
