Carslbadistan’sJazz In The Park is getting a fresh start for its 26th season. Not one of the bands who performed last summer is returning. There may be a reason for that, but it’s certainly has nothing to do with the energetic, friendly crowds that flocked to Stagecoach, Poinsettia, and Calavera Hills Parks last summer.
The all-new season of Jazz In The Park kicks off on Carlsbadistan’s Eastern Front at Stagecoach Park Friday, June 24, 2011 as the electrifying blues singer Javina Magness returns after a two-year absence.
Janiva Magness is among the premier blues and R&B singers in the world today. Charismatic, gutsy and known for her electrifying live shows, she won the Blues Music Awards’ B.B. King Entertainer of The Year in 2009 – only the second woman ever to win the coveted award. Her voice possesses an earthy, raw honesty and beauty born from teen homelessness and deep experience. USA Today declared, “Magness is a blues star,” and The Philadelphia Inquirer said, “Magness sings superb, potent soul-blues with a scorching intensity.”
Better get out the picnic basket and start collecting all that wine and cheese because you”ve only got three weeks. For the complete Jazz In The Park schedule click the link. [click to continue…]

The City of Carlsbad’s TGIF: Jazz In The Park Series has mostly left Carlsbadistan for the 2008 season which is kind of a bummer (no more walking to the shows), but truthfully, we don’t need those inland crowds cluttering up our streets anyway.
This year the 10 events shared among Stagecoach Park, Poinsettia Park, and Calavera Hills Park. The first concert is on Friday June 20 with the Debbie Davies Band at Stagecoach Park.
Follow the jump for all the other details and we will keep you posted all summer long.
The annual Carlsbad TGIF Jazz in the Park series has gotten so popular that it is outgrowing its venues according to a Barbara Henry story in the North County Times. So event planners are going to change things up a bit.
The plans will be unveiled at a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Stagecoach Park, 3420 Camino de los Coches. . . . Under the city’s tentative plan, no concerts will be held at downtown’s Pine Avenue Park, because it isn’t big enough to hold thousands of people, Gordon said.
But it appears that some aren’t too happy about the changes. Especially news about moving the stage at Stagecoach Park. Or in our case, we’re not happy about not being able to walk to any of the TGIF events next year (which ruins half the fun in our opinion). Maybe Carlsbadistan will just have to start their own concert series.
We had to wait all summer long (until the last event of the 2017 TGIF Concerts In The Parks series) but we’ll finally get some jazz in a Carlsbad park on August 18, 2017 as the JazzKatz Orchestra with Whitney Shay cools down Alga Norte Community Park.
Directed by Chaz Cabrera and Whitney Shay, the JazzKatz members are some of the finest and most experienced jazz musicians hand-picked in the San Diego area. The JazzKatz exhibit a passion for modern to classic jazz and emulate the swing sounds of big band music, helping to create a distinctive style that is their own, and never fails to impress.
As always, the music begins at 6 PM. Alga Norte Community park is located at 6565 Alicante Road in Carlsbad, California. Shuttle service operates between 4:30 to 9 p.m. from Ocean Collection, 2510 Gateway Road in Carlsbad.
The City of Carlsbad’s TGIF Concerts in the Parks begin on June 24, 2016 at Stagecoach Community Park, located at 3420 Camino de los Coches. The outdoor concert series runs each Friday through Aug. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m., at community parks across the city.
Mmmm, dees shore am shweet jazz een doe pox. Get ready for a little Cajun spice this Friday night as Roddie Romero & The Hub City All-Stars heat up Carlsbadistan’sPoinsettia Park with a little Southern Louisiana rhythm and soul.
Roddie’s passionate vocals, pumping accordian and mastery of the slide guitar leads the funkified groove of his talented band, the Hub City All Stars. You will not only experience great, original music at a Hub City All Stars’ concert, but you’ll witness the tightest band from the swamps of Louisiana put on an electrifying show.
That sounds like exactly what we were looking for this Friday night. Do not miss this one ’cause there are only three more this summer.
[Editor’s Note: This event has been cancelled due to a dead bird.] Get ready for what will probably be the most hard rocking night of the entire TGIF Jazz In The Park as Tinsley Ellis drowns Poinsettia Park in his own brand of southern fried blues, tonight July 25, 2008.
Tinsley Ellis sings and plays with the energy and soul of all the great Southern musicians who have come before him. Ellis attacks his music with rock power and blues feeling, following in the tradition of Deep South musical heroes Duane Allman, Freddie King, Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes. His live shows feature extended fretwork filled with melodic and rhythmic experimentation, in the spirit of jam bands like his friends Widespread Panic and The Allman Brothers. Atlanta Magazine declared Ellis “the most significant blues artist to emerge from Atlanta since Blind Willie McTell.”
We’re going to guess that means he’s amazing. Show starts at 6 PM at Poinsettia Park and remember to bring earplugs for the kids.
