Merlin, which is controlled by Blackstone, the American private equity group, had hoped to list its shares just before Easter. Asked whether it might push the button before the third quarter, Mr Varney replied: “It’s all dependent on how the market goes. . . “An IPO [initial public offering] remains a very strong option for us, though we won’t go at any price because we don’t need to refinance until 2012.”

Officials released that information Wednesday, after word spread that local parents are mounting a new campaign to get the state and the county to test soil, water and air conditions in some parts of the city. . . “Each (state) assessment concluded that there was no evidence of any usual pattern of cancers compared to the rest of San Diego County,” August wrote.
On Saturday, March 27, 2010 the Carlsbad Art Farm will be set up at The Flower Fields to help students learn how to make art live and on the spot.
Look for our booth where students can learn how to make pictures from die-cut paper leaves in the images of animals and birds. Once you get the idea, you can collect and press your own leaves to make fantastic creatures. . . We will also have information and registration materials for the 2010 Art Farm Summer Camp season beginning June 14 and continuing through mid-August. We will be raffling off a certificate worth $315 good for a one-week session during the 2010 Summer Camp season. Students must be entering grades 2 -8 next fall to attend camp.
Carlsbad’s Art Farm, located a 10 acre farm in the heart of Carlsbadistan, gives students in grades 2 through 8 the foundational elements and principals of art as a formal discipline. For more information stop by the booth at the Flower Fields or click the link below.
Remember those Tamarack Surf Beach pay parking warnings we mentioned earlier this week? One of our readers got one last Saturday. “The employee who left it on my car would not confirm that there would be a grace period, he said. “When asked about the newspaper and TV reports he said, ‘That’s what the media is saying.’
And from the looks of this warning, the media is right. Two more weeks of free parking at least.
Just a little reminder from the Carlsbad Municipal Water District: thanks for being nice and conserving more than the eight percent that was requested. You know, the water has a long journey to get here and we should treat it well.
Carlsbad relies on water from the Colorado River and Northern California for 100 percent of its supply. California has faced severe water shortages due to a prolonged drought and legal restrictions on water pumped from Northern California. Recent local rain doesn’t help much because most of it runs off into the ocean and cannot be captured for future use.
