Woman Falls From Carlsbad Cliff

by The Editors on March 15, 2010

A woman in her 20s was taken to the hospital by helicopter for injuries she sustained after falling down a beachside cliff near Turn Arounds at about 6 PM tonight (March 15, 2010), according to a Jose Luis Jiménez story in the San Diego Union-Tribune.

. . . she either fell or the cliff gave way, said Carlsbad fire Battalion Chief Mike Davis. She fell about 20 feet onto Carlsbad State Beach and told paramedics she could not move, Davis said. . . Paramedics cared for the woman until a helicopter from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department lifted her from the beach.

Those paths can be tricky. Our thoughts are with her.

We did a little recon over the weekend and found O’Sullivan’s the place to be for their Pre St. Patrick’s Day Weekend Warm Up session: green hair and all. Looks like everyone is ready for the real thing on Wednesday when The Clay Colton Band and Paddy’s Pig will play “lively renditions of traditional Irish songs, reels, jigs, ballads and drinking songs.”

Hash House Harriers Run Carlsbad

by The Editors on March 12, 2010

Lah3 HareThe Hash House Harriers of Southern California, a running group whose members reportedly include the mother and stepfather of John Gardner, the man accused of raping and murdering seventeen-year-old Chelsea King, will be holding an event in Carlsbad on Saturday, March 20, 2010.

The run, with the unfortunate title of 16th Anal Humpin Bar2Bar – ‘Sorority Sleepover,’ kicks off in McGee park at “around 11” according to the group’s website.

This same group held a run in the Rancho Bernardo Community Park on December 27, 2009 three hours after a 22-year-old college student was attacked in the park. It is the same park where Chelsea King was running when she disappeared. John Gardner was charged with “assault with the intent to rape” in that attack according to a story in the San Diego Union-Tribune. The story goes on to say that there is no evidence that Gardner participated in the run.

Armed Man Robs Carlsbad Citibank

by The Editors on March 12, 2010

At 9:50 AM today (March 12, 2010) a Latino about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 150 to 160 pounds handed a demand note to a teller at the Citibank near the intersection of Marron Road at Jefferson St. and robbed the place, according to a story in the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Witnesses reported seeing a handgun tucked into the waistband of his jeans. . . The robber was seen getting into a dark-colored, full-sized, lifted truck with off-road tires. Police searched the area but were unable to find the vehicle.

We believe this to be the first reported bank robbery of the new year. He probably needed to buy new monster truck tires. Those things are expensive.

Carlsbadistan Dog Napper On the Loose

by The Editors on March 11, 2010

A man who was “walking his dog” by driving in his car while holding his german shepherd by a leash on Haymar Drive near El Camino Real got his dog snatched by someone who didn’t appreciate the man’s dog-driving techniques, according to as story in the San Deigo Union-Tribune.

At about 5:35 p.m., a man approached the dog owner and told him what he was doing was illegal. The man then grabbed the dog, put him in his pickup and told the owner to contact Oceanside police if he wanted the dog back, police said. The man then drove away with the German shepherd, valued at $1,200, police said. Officers contacted Oceanside police, who did not have the dog.

The dog napper was described as a 30-year-old white guy with brown hair driving a “newer-model” truck with a camper shell. Well, that narrows it down. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Carlsbadistan police department.

[Update March 12, 2010: The stolen dog was found Friday evening roaming a neighborhood a few miles from the owner’s home, according to the North County Times.]

by The Editors on March 10, 2010

Merlin LogoMerlin Entertainments, the UK based company that operates the Legoland theme parks may be going public in June according to a story in the Times Online.

Merlin, which is controlled by Blackstone, the American private equity group, had hoped to list its shares just before Easter. Asked whether it might push the button before the third quarter, Mr Varney replied: “It’s all dependent on how the market goes. . . “An IPO [initial public offering] remains a very strong option for us, though we won’t go at any price because we don’t need to refinance until 2012.”
