Weed And 3 Mexicans Seized At Tamarack

by The Editors on November 15, 2011

Panga Weed2

Carlsbadistan residents on their way to work down the coast this morning got a nice look at officials attempting to remove the drug-loaded panga that came ashore near the Tamarack Jetty just after midnight this morning (Tuesday, November 15, 2011), according to a story in the San Diego Union-Tribune.

U.S. Border Patrol agents spotted the 28-foot boat about 1:30 a.m. and watched it come ashore between Tamarack Avenue and Cannon Road, Agent Michael Jimenez said. . . Two men were on the boat, and one was sitting in an awaiting vehicle when they were taken into custody, Jimenez said.

Apparently the three Mexican nationals over shot their normal docking spot at Ponto Landing and then got stuck in the sand.

Carlsbad Education Foundations Raises $350,000

by The Editors on November 4, 2011

Cef-LogoAs much as we’d like to think that the taxes we pay to the State of California could support a reasonable public school system, here in Carlsbad that just isn’t the case. In fact, the Carlsbad Unified School District is headed into an $11 million deficit for the 2012-13 school year. That’s why the work of the Carlsbad Education Foundation is so important to the students in Carlsbad. On November 1, 2011 the CEF kicked off their annual fund drive.

Here’s what they did with the money this year:

Carlsbad Educational Foundation announces the release of $350,000 in funds to assist 15 key initiatives that support students within the Carlsbad Unified School District during the 2011-2012 school year. Among the initiatives are essential music, science and special programs that impact 11,000 students throughout the district.

For more information on what the CEF is doing in Carlsbad and how you can help, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

NASA Space Junk Not Hitting Carlsbadistan

by The Editors on September 23, 2011

584115Main Uars 2 946-710

The 35-foot-long, 15-foot-diameter “decommissioned” NASA Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS) will quite likely fall from the sky tonight between 8 PM and midnight tonight PDT. The good news for us is that during that time it will not be passing over the continental United States, and more importantly, not over Carlsbadistan according to NASA.

As of 7 p.m. EDT on Sept. 23, 2011, the orbit of UARS was 90 miles by 95 miles (145 km by 150 km). Re-entry is expected between 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, and 3 a.m., Sept. 24, Eastern Daylight Time (3 a.m. to 7 a.m. GMT). During that time period, the satellite will be passing over Canada, Africa and Australia, as well as vast areas of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans. The risk to public safety is very remote.

The bad news is only for Canada, Africa, and Australia, apparently. If Carlsbadistan wasn’t buried in a continual layer of fog it would be possible to see (and maybe hear) the speeding ball of fire tonight around 7:45 PM, according to NBC San Diego. For more updated info, click the link.
