Anyone who loves electronic music owes a huge debt of respect to Bob Moog. Everyone from Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, and Devo to Abba and George Harrison have used Moog’s technology to make music. This weekend the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbadistan is kicking off their latest exhibition: “Waves of Inspiration: The Legacy of Moog.”
The exhibition focuses on the life, work and philosophy of Bob Moog, a pioneer in the field of electronic music, developing the Moog synthesizer in 1964. The history of Bob Moog also encompasses the story of how the synthesizer became commercially accessible to musicians for the first time, and how it provided them with new realms of sonic expression.
On Sunday, August 30, 2009 at 1 PM exhibition Advisor Brian Kehew (Moog Cookbook, The Who) and Larry Fast (Synergy, Peter Gabriel) will present a multimedia exploration of the life, work and philosophy of Bob Moog. What better way to cap off another summer of great TGIF Jazz In The Park performances than with blues guitarist Coco Montoya making his second appearance with a show this Friday August 21, 2009 in Calavera Hills Park.
Over his 30-year career, guitarist and vocalist Coco Montoya’s explosive guitar playing and soul-driven voice have propelled him to the upper reaches of the blues-rock world. Montoya performs non-stop at clubs, concert halls and major festivals all over the world, serving up mind-bending guitar licks and impassioned vocals. “The fiery blues that issue forth from Coco Montoya’s guitar are awe-inspiring and boogie requiring,” shouts The Village Voice.
It’s starting to look a little like movie Monday around here, but we just keep finding cool stuff, so we’re putting it up. Even though we’re not really into country pop, we have to agree with Carlsbadistan’sRuby Summer “the beach gets better south of Orange County.”
Tinsley Ellis sings and plays with the energy and soul of all the great Southern musicians who have come before him. Ellis attacks his music with rock power and blues feeling, following in the tradition of Deep South musical heroes Duane Allman, Freddie King, Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes. His live shows feature extended fretwork filled with melodic and rhythmic experimentation, in the spirit of jam bands like his friends Widespread Panic and The Allman Brothers. Atlanta Magazine declared Ellis “the most significant blues artist to emerge from Atlanta since Blind Willie McTell.
