Songwriter Jack Tempchin At NVA

Jack Tempchin has written so many hit pop songs, it’s crazy. From Peaceful Easy Feeling and Already Gone for the Eagles to Johnny Rivers’ Slow Dancing, and Glenn Frey’s Smugglers Blues. On Saturday evening, November 9, 2013 Tempchin is spending the evening at Carlsbad’s New Village Arts Theatre for A Night of Wine & Song.

Songwriter Jack Tempchin is considered to be a co-architect of The Southern California Sound. Tempchin has been a contributor on multiple multi-platinum Eagles cuts, including “Somebody” and “It’s Your World Now” which are both featured on The Eagles’ Long Road Out Of Eden, and “The Girl From Yesterday” which was featured on The Eagles’ Hell Freezes Over reunion CD.

NVA Playreading: Amy Herzog’s 4000 Miles

Tonight, (Monday, October 21, 2013) at 7 PM the New Village Arts Theatre in the Village of Carlsbad will be presenting a playing reading of Amy Herzog’s 4000 Miles. The play was a finalist for the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and ran off Broadway in 2011 and 2012.

After suffering a major loss while he was on a cross-country bike trip, 21 year-old Leo seeks solace from his feisty 91 year-old grandmother Vera in her West Village apartment. Over the course of a single month, these unlikely roommates infuriate, bewilder, and ultimately reach each other. 4000 MILES looks at how two outsiders find their way in today’s world.

This just might be one of the best plays you’ll have read to you this year. Attendees are asked to make a $10 donation per ticket. The New Village Arts Theatre is located at 2787 State St, Carlsbad, CA 92008.

Women Of Jazz At Museum Of Making Music

Into Jazz? Well, Carlsbad’s Museum of Making Music is bringing together six of San Diego’s “top jazz musicians for a special evening celebrating the feminine side of jazz and the work of female composers from around the world” on Saturday, October 12, 2013.

The concert features vocalist Allison Adams Tucker, flutist Lori Bell, pianist Melonie Grinnell, contrabassist Evona Wascinski, drummer Laurel Grinnell, and percussionist Monette Marino.

This should not stop you from registering, donating huge sponsorship dollars, and proving just how flush you are by over-bidding on all the cool stuff in the evening’s auction.

Sure it’s golf, but Carlsbad’s kids are important and the work the Carlsbad Education Foundation does for city schools is epic.

2013 Carlsbad Music Festival September 20-22

For 2013 the Carlsbad Music Festival is stacked with talent and beautiful music of all styles, shapes and sounds.

The Festival was founded in 2003 by composer, violinist and Carlsbad-native, Matt McBane and has been praised by local and national media including the Los Angeles Times, which called the Festival “magnificently enlightening.” In 2010, the Festival won the national ASCAP Chamber Music America Award for Adventurous Programming and in 2012 and 2013, the Festival was awarded prestigious Artworks Grants from the National Endowment of the Arts.

Contribute To Carlsbad’s Coastal Cleanup Day

On Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 9 AM to Noon the City of Carlsbad, in cooperation with I Love A Clean San Diego and International Coastal Cleanup Day will be participating in the 29th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day and they need your help.

Cleanup volunteers not only pick up trash, they also collect data on types of trash and debris found. This data is used to educate the public, businesses, industries and government on pollution prevention. . . Volunteers are encouraged to sign up at www.cleanupday.org. Click on the map to select the city-sponsored cleanup site at Tamarack Beach or any of the other registered sites. A volunteer waiver form is available on the website or at the event. All volunteers are required to sign the waiver, and participants under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

Madagascar 3 At Family Movie Night

Family Movie NightStagecoach Community Park will host a Family Movie Night presentation of Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted on Saturday night, September 14, 2013.

The movie is free, and fun zone wristbands will be available for $5. The wristbands provide unlimited access to the circus-themed fun zone that includes bounce houses, slides, carnival games and activities. Beverages, hot dogs, pizza, funnel cakes and ice cream will be available for purchase.

Carlsbad Boys & Girls Clubs Annual Gala

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad are hosting their largest fundraising event of the year, their annual Come Play With Us Gala, at the La Costa Resort and Spa on Saturday, September 28, at 6:00 p.m. .

“Everyone is invited to come, dance the night away, and give to a great cause!” says Gala Co-Chair Barbi Nelson. “We want everyone to show up and celebrate the Club’s impact,” added Gala Co-Chair Viola Wheelihan. . . More than 550 business and community leaders are expected to attend this social event of the season complete with lavish cuisine and dancing to Bonnie Foster Production’s dynamic Wayne Foster Experience.

The evening will be hosted by 10 News’ Kimberly Hunt and her husband (former Charger) Billy Ray Smith. Tickets are $250 per person and there are still sponsorship options available. Bike To Work Day In Carlsbadistan

The City of Carlsbadistan sprinted full speed into supporting National Bike To Work Day on Friday, May 17, 2013 with five pit stops located throughout the city. How did we know the City was involved? We saw the pit stops while riding our bike to work. Apparently, there were 90 Bike To Work pit stops (click the link to see them all) located through out San Diego County.

If you’re reading this now and you didn’t ride your bike to work, then you missed it. But don’t let that stop you from riding your bike to work next week.

3 On 3 Basketball At Carlsbad’s Westfield Mall

On Saturday July 13, 2013 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Carlsbad’s Westfield Mall parking lot will be turned into a huge outdoor three on three basketball tournament for boys grades 3 through 12 thanks to the City of Carlsbad. To play, you need get your team registered while there is still time.

Five grade divisions will be offered: 3rd and 4th, 5th and 6th, 7th and 8th, 9th and 10th, and 11th and 12th. Grades are determined by school year 2012-2013. Online registration may only be completed by a parent of a child from the team, or a team member who is 18 years of age or older.
