Brick Or Treating At Legoland All Month

by The Editors on October 8, 2008

Brick Or Treat

While the name “Brick-Or-Treat” tends to make us think of kids weilding bricks to threaten home-owners into handing over the candy, it’s actually a fun family Halloween event being held all month at Legoland. Lego brick? Get it?

The theme park’s annual family-friendly Halloween celebration, presented by Union Bank of California, also commemorated its first-ever Brick-or-Treat Party Nights nighttime event with a special visit from nearly 600 members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad and San Marcos. This year, the Park hosts
Party Nights every Saturday in October from 5 to 9 p.m.

Just look at all those smiling faces. Brick-or-Treat only tickets are available after 5 PM. For more info click the link.

Bressi Ranch’s New Alterna-Fuel Pumps

by The Editors on October 8, 2008

Bressi Shell

We have to be honest. We have no idea what an “ethanol fuel” really means. But Carlsbad has two new ethanol pumps at Bressi Ranch Shell. The station celebrated yesterday by throwing a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2740 Gateway Road.

And everyone was there: (Left to right) Ted Owen, president/CEO of Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce; Judy Bishop, executive director of the Ecocenter for Alternative Fuel Education; Mike Lewis, general manager of Pearson Fuels; Fred Reed, owner Bressi Ranch Shell; Debbie Reed, Bressi Ranch Shell.

For a list of cars that can actually use these two new pumps click the link for a guide to reading VIN numbers for FlexFuel compatibility.

Three Candidates at Oktoberfest

by The Editors on October 6, 2008

Candidates Of

Carlsbadistan City Council candidates Thomas K. Arnold, Evan Rodgers, and Ann Kulchin out campaigning together at the Rotary Oktoberfest at Holiday Park on Saturday, October 4, 2008.

Kind of reminds us of a song that we used to sing: One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just doesn’t belong. . . let’s just say since we only have two votes we’ll probably start in the middle and move left.

Another Barrio Stabbing On Friday Night

by The Editors on October 6, 2008

A man was stabbed twice on Friday night October 3, 2008 near the corner of Harding and Magnolia Streets and Carlsbad police say they “believe it was gang-related,” according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The victim suffered a 3-inch cut to his arm and a 3-inch cut to his stomach. He was taken to Mercy Hospital by helicopter, where he was reported in stable condition, said Carlsbad police Sgt. Keith Blackburn.

A 24-year-old man who was running from the scene with a knife was arrested. That must have been the helicopter we twittered about at 11:06 PM.

World’s Most Powerful Women In Carlsbad

by The Editors on October 2, 2008

Our party crashing skills are seriously lagging as we missed the first two nights of the Fortune Most Powerful Women conference at the Four Seasons Aviara October 1-3, 2008. Here’s a little of what we’ve missed in addition to hanging out at the lobby bar pretending to be gigolos.

Now in its tenth year, the Summit is the world’s premiere gathering of women leaders in business, government, academia, philanthropy, and the arts. Each Fall, a select group comes together to exchange big ideas . . . This year’s theme is Extraordinary Talent, and our lineup includes PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi, Melinda Gates, and Warren Buffett. Our program — no speeches! — is diverse and designed to facilitate energetic and provocative conversation. Participation is by invitation only.

Christiane Amanpour and Maria Bartiromo in Carlsbadistan in the same hotel on the same night? Is this heaven or what? Guess there is still time to crash something. . . lets see, how about playing bridge with Warren Buffet or yoga with Martha Stewart Friday morning at 6:30 AM.

Roll Out The Barrel It’s Oktoberfest

by The Editors on October 2, 2008

Oktober3

Those Carlsbad Rotarians may not know how to send out a press release or respond to email, but they surely know how to throw beer drinking parties. That’s why we’re so excited about the 26th Annual Carlsbad Rotary Oktoberfest being held in Holiday Park this Saturday, October 4, 2008 from 1 – 10 PM.

There nothing better than spending an afternoon drinking beer in a public park, doing the chicken dance, and helping the kids carve a pumpkin. Plus, it all helps raise money for some good causes. Hopefully we’ll see you there. . . in your lederhosen.

Carlsbad Canoeist Goes For Nightime Swim

by The Editors on October 1, 2008

081001Rescued280Carlsbadistan resident Nathan Talauega, 45, thought he was going to go for a short dusk paddle in his one-man canoe at about 4:45 PM yesterday, but ended up spending nearly four hours on and in the ocean before being rescued according to a story in the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Talauega said he was about five miles out and was starting to head back when he heard a popping sound coming from his canoe. A short time later, he heard another loud pop, and the canoe started taking on water, he said. . . . By then he was about three to four miles offshore. He tried to flag down some passing boats, but they didn’t see him, Talauega said.

After three hours in the water Talauega was finally spotted by a lobster fisherman and pulled to safety. If we were him, we’d be interested in speaking with whoever made that canoe.
