A crew of budding artists shows off their work after a week at the Carlsbad Art Farm, according to a post on the school’s blog.
During the week, students learn to sketch animals; color mix using a limited pallet; how to block in their subject for a painting; a little about animal anatomy, and then use the colors they create on their own pallet to render their subject (in this case: a bunny, chickens and a mouse on a wheel). These students will be entering Grade 4 this fall.
The Art Farm Summer Camps are open to students entering Grades 2-8 in the fall of 2010 and run either mornings or afternoons beginning each Monday. Sign up now as there is still spots open. For more information click the link.

If Carlsbadistan were ever to name the kings of TGIF Jazz In The Park it would no doubt crown Warren Lovell’s Big Time Operator. This big beat, jazz, lounge band has played 11 of the 25 and on Friday July 9, 2010 they’re going to be swingin’ up Stagecoach Park again with their big band sound.
Led by singer Warren Lovell, this ten piece band has the class and excitement to make your event memorable. . . Winners of the 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 San Diego Music Awards for Best Big Band, and the 1998 Jim Croces Excellence in Entertainment Award. Big Time Operator excels at playing classic big band arrangements, latin arrangements, and impressive original songs. They are true to the past and yet completely contemporary Entertainers Extraordinaire!
They’ve “got a rhythmn stingin’ hot, they’re going to put you on the spot.” Show starts at 6 PM. Martinis are highly encouraged.

Are organizers planning for some serious stragglers in this year’s Carlsbadistan Triathlon, or did someone at the sign shop just mess up a little? We’re guessing the latter.

The people in dark masks, hooded sweatshirts “claimed to be armed” while robbing the Carlsbad Citi bank at 1810 Marron Rd. on Thursday, July 1, 2010, according to a story in The Coast News.
Carlsbad Police responded to the scene and located a vehicle, abandoned with the motor still running, behind the Marshall’s Store, which is located in the same shopping center. It was discovered that this vehicle had been reported as stolen from the Los Angeles area. The surrounding area was searched by a police K-9 and other officers, however the suspects were not located.
We haven’t had a bank robbery since March and it was at the same bank. In fact, the Citibank on Marron Rd has been robbed at least three times in the past three years. Seems to be a favorite with the bad guys.

We’ve been hearing rumors that there may be some unofficial fireworks going off near the beach come July 4. We’ve seen them before and they were insanely professional. Carlsbadistan’s finest, however, seem to frown on those festivities. That’s why this year we’re going to watch the Red, White, & Boom fireworks at Legoland first.
The Legoland fireworks show is going down at 8:30 PM, July 4, 2010. The best place to view them is from the lower parking lot at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa. Trust us, you really don’t want to get any closer than that.

When Carlsbadistan’s terrible June Gloom rolls right into July and it starts to get you down just remember–it’s not cloudy everywhere, it’s just cloudy here we live. . . really, really cloudy and dark. Out in Vista it’s blue sky summer. But, you know, it’s still Vista.
