On Monday, June 8th, more than 800 students, teachers, faculty, parents and friends of Jefferson Elementary School in the heart of Carlsbadistan gathered to celebrate World Ocean Day (www.worldoceanday.org) by organizing a massive photo shoot at Tamarack Beach, where they stood on the beach at the base of the Hemlock stairs and spelled out the words “SHARE THE PLANET.”

Under the leadership of first-grade teacher Arlene Gnade, a recent recipient of the “Teachers Make a Difference” award given by the San Diego County Office of Education and KPRI 102.1 FM, the group sought to raise awareness about the crucial role the ocean plays in our lives as well as our shared responsibility of protecting it.

I’m so glad to know who made this happen. I loved it as did my children and grandchildren. Actually a friend in Austin sent me to the website.
