We’ve had wonderful nights at the Carlsbad Inn (thanks to termites) and we love rolling over and looking out the window at the parking lot below. But we rolled over in bed, not in a car like “two elderly sisters” did on Monday night, January 4, 2010, according to a story in the North County Times.
The 79-year-old driver apparently had her foot on the gas pedal when she released the emergency brake, causing the car to lurch forward, hit a tree and flip onto its side, said Carlsbad police Lt. Bruce May. . . The crash happened at about 8:35 p.m. on the 3000 block of Carlsbad Boulevard, May said.. . .The driver was taken to a hospital after suffering minor injuries; her 82-year-old sister was not hurt, May said.
The two sisters where apparently on their way to the hospital after a third sister began choking during dinner and was transported by ambulance.

When ABC’s disturbingly sexist reality show The Bachelor kicks off a new season Monday night January 4, 2010, one of the 25 women “competing for the affections” of commercial airline pilot Jake Pavelka is reportedly a “32-year-old homemaker from Carlsbad” named Valishia. Anyone know her?
“All 25 women were absolutely amazing, very high caliber from all walks of life,” Pavelka said in a recent conference call with reporters. . . Pavelka said he was looking for someone adventurous, intelligent, athletic, compassionate and romantic.
Guess those are the word Pavelka uses when he means hot, horny, and slutty. Will be interesting see how far our Carlsbadistan competitor can go.

Our favorite early New Year’s celebration went down last night at Carlsbadistan’s Legoland park. Reveler’s dropped a brick on 2009 at 6 PM.
The festivities were topped off by a dazzling fireworks display that illuminated the 128-acre family theme park and was the first to light up San Diego’s night sky. . . Mini revelers rocked out in party hats, glow bracelets and special fireworks viewing glasses during four fun family concerts featuring pop-rocker Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players, The Jumpitz, one the hottest children’s entertainment groups in the nation; Nine-year-old hip-hop artist Lil Niqo; and Pink Army, an all girl band based in San Diego.
Follow the jump for more details from last night.

On December 28, 2009 Carlsbad’s Pacific Ridge School celebrated the wall raising on their new energy-efficient high school building. With the help of some enormous cranes and a host of dignitaries, the campus moved several walls to making the above artist rendering of the school a reality for students and teachers.

What does the number one gift giver do after a 24 hour world tour in a sleigh pulled by nine tiny reindeer? If these photos are to be believed Santa Claus heads down to Robert C. Frazee Beach, kicks his boots off and cools those barking dogs in the frigid surf.
Yes, in Carlsbadistan we have the happiest holidays.

On December 26, 2009 the luxury car crew is meeting at The Carlsbad Premium Outlets from 7 AM to 9 AM to show off their toys. If you’re into Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Cobras, Vipers, Lotus and the rest then it may be worth a roll by. . . even if you’re just getting a cup of coffee at Starbucks. It’s fun to see that much cash stacked up in a parking lot.

Kanishka Jain, 23, of Carlsbad was driving north on Interstate-5 near Coalinga, California at 8:30 PM Friday December 18, 2009 when 2007 Toyota Scion he was driving “drifted off the roadway and overturned” killing Tanvi Jain, 22, of New Delhi, India, according to a story in the Fresno Bee. The woman was not wearing a seatbelt.
Jain and another passenger, Tanay Jain, 21, of Carlsbad, sustained moderate injuries, the CHP said. Both were wearing seatbelts. . . The CHP said an officer from another law enforcement agency had stopped Jain about 12 miles south of the accident site and given him a verbal warning for driving at 90 mph.
Our thoughts are with the entire family.
