The new City of Carlsbad, CA Skate Park is ready for 2012 ! ASD was selected to completely re-design the park before construction. Thanks for all the input from Pro Skater Andy Mac on the bowls and the entire ASD team for their hard work.
This skateboard park has been in the planning stages so long that it’s good that it gets a little update. And it looks good. The bowls look fun and the street section looks like the latest in skate plaza goodness. This should be good.
Previews for the New Village Arts Theatre’s production of Shakespeare’s Comedy Of Errors kicked off last night (February 8, 2012) and continue through Friday night, February 10, 2012.
The Ensemble is at it again, this time tackling Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors. Director Justin Lang and the creative team behind Comedy have a seriously funny take on this uproarious farce that’s all about mistaken identity. We have relocated Shakespeare’s most slapstick comedy to – where else? A 1950’s television studio in Hollywood. . . Comedy of Errors is kind of like “Wife-Swap”… but by accident… and with husbands… mixed in with I Love Lucy and Dick Van Dyke. It’s an evening of hilarious fun, done in a style that only the NVA Ensemble could pull off.
Pay what you want Thursday and Friday night (February 9-10, 2012). Opening night is Saturday, February 11, 2012. The New Village Arts Theatre is located at 2787 State Street in Carlsbad, California. To purchase tickets click here.
“After the team danced at finals, I was thrilled! They came out with such intensity and left it all on the dance floor!” said Laura. Team captain, Camille Posard, states, “We were fighting hard to defend our Championship Title and the competition was extremely tough. All those hours of practice, rehearsals, and sacrifices culminated minutes before the Finals. During our pep-talk we all had tears in our eyes and a roaring fire lit inside.”

MY DAUGHTER HAS BEEN FOUND! She is safe! Got a call from a Sherrif Deputy who recognized her from one of the many flyers WE had put up. He called me, and I rushed over. I’ve seen her, held her, talked to her. Now its just a matter of PD ‘debriefing ‘ her, make sure she’s ok, no laws broken. THANKS ALL OF YOU! Details to come. I won’t be able to answer my phone, but thanks ALL of you… Each and every one! YOU’VE ALL BEEN AMAZING!!
We’re always glad when a runaway teen comes home and we hope everything turns out well.
Carlsbad Police are hoping the public can help them find missing 17-year-old Christine Jelinek. Police believe Jelinek (pictured above), who disappeared early the morning of January 4, 2012, visited with a white adult male 45-50 years old on January 3, 2012 at Mariah’s Restaurant in Vista. The man (above right), whom she may have communicated with over the Internet, is described as:
. . . a white male adult, 45-50 years old, about 5’11”, weighing about 160 lbs, unknown eye color, and hair described as short and lighter on the bottom and dark on the top, and also described as “peppered”. At the sighting, he was wearing jeans, and a blue or gray button down shirt. . . The male is unknown to Christine’s parents, her associates and friends.
After meeting at Mariah’s, the man drove Christine to her home. Early the next morning Christine left her home and has not been seen or made contact with her family since. Jelinek is a white female 5’9” tall, about 150 lbs., with shoulder length dark brown hair and brown eyes. She reportedly left home with two pairs of jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt (which she may be wearing).
Anyone with any information about Christine’s whereabouts or any information on the man in the above sketch should contact the Carlsbad Police Department at (760) 931-2223. Follow the jump for more info. [click to continue…]
Until last summer the residents of Rancho Carlsbad Estates had a winning record when it came to their ping pong tournaments against the Carlsbad Boys & Girls Club players. Then this summer, the Club players finally won the tournament. Now, Rancho Carlsbad has been good enough to donate a brand new ping pong table to the new Bressi Boys & Girls club.
The interaction between seniors and youngsters is a perfect match,” said Jim Salvia, Bressi Unit Director. “Many of our kids don’t have grandparents readily available to them. The intergenerational activities are beneficial to both groups; everyone has a blast!”
Ping pong isn’t the only thing the two groups have worked on together of the past five years. Follow the jump for the complete school. [click to continue…]
When 17-year-old Haley Faith Wilson of Amarillo, Texas ran away from home on December 26, 2011 her father Ray notified the authorities and then made the above youtube video to let the world know to watch out for her. After getting over 500,000 views the video became somewhat of a viral hit and Mr. Wilson began getting write ups in news organizations all over the world including the Daily Mail UK.
The good news is that Haley has been found in Carlsbadistan, according to a tweet by her father Ray:
Carlsbad, CA PD pulled over Haley and I talked to her and am flying out to San Diego – Please RT & Repost! #FOUNDhaley
The song on the video is one her dad wrote and it’s probably been heard more now than ever before. Good news all around and one more example of how social media is making the world smaller and smaller every day.
It was almost two years ago that the City of Carlsbadistan dream of free parking at Tamarack State Beach died and the California State Park system began charging for parking. It was sad, but at $2 a hour or $10 a day, it wasn’t completely out of the question.
Well, it appears we can all forget about that hourly parking thing. Apparently, California State Parks has eliminated the $2 an hour parking in the Tamarack Beach parking lot completely.
Want to take a 40 minute run on the beach in the morning? $10. Want to eat lunch on the rocks and watch the surfers at noon? $10. Nice how they do that, isn’t it? The State should probably just throw in the towel and charge $100 a day to park. Just think how much that would help the State budget. . . and truthfully, who uses that parking lot anyway?
The Carlsbad Police Department is getting a brand new $249,000Lenco BearCat for use by the SWAT team, you know, if and when things really escalate in our fair city by the sea, according to a story in the Coast News.
“The rescue vehicle will be funded through the Homeland Security Grant Program’s Urban Areas Security Initiative and State Homeland Security Program,” said Sasway, adding that a year ago the department learned of these available funds.
Phew. Thought for a minute that we were paying for it. The new rig should arrive by November 2012 just in time for the end of the world.
