Carlsbad’s Street Fair Is May 6, 2018

by The Editors on May 2, 2018

On Sunday, May 6, 2018 the streets of downtown Carlsbad will be transformed into a walking plaza packed with all your friends and neighbors along with booths from 800 vendors as part of the The Carlsbad Village Faire.

The Carlsbad Village Faire – the largest one-day street fair in the nation – will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, May 6. The fair stretches 14 blocks. Grand Avenue from Carlsbad Boulevard to Jefferson Street, and all of the cross streets in between, will be closed for the event. Each year, the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce hosts the fair in May and November. Now in its 44th year, the free event has grown to be so popular that it not only continually attracts people from all over Southern California, but also from other states.

We used to visit the Carlsbad street faire every year. To see what Carlsbad Village Faire looked like nearly a decade ago, click here for 2011 or here or 2009. For the official details from the Carlsbad Village Association, please follow the jump.

Carlsbadistan Street Fair Was Huge

by The Editors on November 8, 2010

It looked like about 100,000 people in the streets of Carlsbadistan for this year’s Street Faire, and that’s what organizers are telling the media apparently. According to the North County Times (who still pays people to write stories about street fairs):

As many as 100,000 people crowded the village streets Sunday to shop at the booths of more than 850 vendors, listen to live music at several locations and bask in the warm weather of a balmy November afternoon. . . “This weather is about as perfect as you can ask for during this event,” said Brian Roth, an event organizer for Kennedy & Associates, working for the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. “A few days ago it would have been too hot, but things cooled down just enough.”

Luckily, we arrived late and yet were still able to find kettle corn and a jump or two on the huge bouncy houses on the corner of Carlsbad Village Drive and Roosevelt. Follow the jump for more snaps. . .

Coaster Trains Running Sunday For Street Fair

by The Editors on November 4, 2010

On Sunday, November 7, 2010 the streets of Carlsbadistan will be packed with visitors as the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce presents the world’s Largest One-Day Street Fair— the fall Carlsbad Village Faire from 8 AM to 4 PM in the heart of the Village.

Closed streets will turn our busy Village into a bustling walking mall of pop-up tents featuring arts, crafts, music, food, and a plethora of fantastically absorbent sponges, spectacular vegetable chopping devices, magical mops, and the occasional epic collection of what can only be described as flea market junk.

For the first time, North County Transit Districts Coaster trains will be running on Sunday specifically to make visiting the street fair easier for everyone in San Diego. In fact, people from Carlsbadistan who are planning on driving to the street fair should seriously consider parking at the Poinsettia Coaster Station and riding into the Village the train. It’s also a great option for anyone planning to spend their day in the beer garden.

Early Sunday morning, May 2, 2010, the streets of Carlsbadistan will close and the booths will pop-up throughout the Village in preparation for the bi-annual Carlsbad Street Faire. Need a new miracle mop? A salsa making machine? A blender or miniature surfboard with your name on it? Then the Carlsbad Street Fair is the place. Arrive early, park politely, and stay all day. Just be careful in the beer garden.

Carlsbad Street Faire Photos

by The Editors on November 1, 2009

We could not have asked for a more perfect fall day for a street faire in Carlsbadistan. With the time change everyone was up early. The sun was out. The streets were littered with smashed pumpkins. And the Chargers are going to destroy the Raiders. Could we ask for anything better?

The faire seemed bigger, better, and more well attended. We’ve been rough on the faire in years past, but today we found some pretty amazing gifts, including the custom, retro, hot rod kids clothes from Whiskey Doll Couture (pictured above).

If you survived All Hallow’s Eve, then today is going to be a great day in the Village of Carlsbadistan as the 35th Annual Carlsbad Street Faire returns to the streets November 1, 2009.

The Rotary Club of Carlsbad’s beer and wine garden will again entertain fairgoers with live bands and The Kiwanis Club of Carlsbad will continue its more than 25-year tradition of hosting a pancake breakfast at the Carlsbad railroad depot. The meal, which includes pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice, will be served between 7 a.m. and noon.

If you’re going to park in The Neighborhood, please be kind to the residents. They live here. And we’ll see at the Faire.

Carlsbadistan Street Faire November 1

by The Editors on October 14, 2009

Cbstreetf08 16Join 100,000 of your closest friends on Sunday November 1, 2009 as the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce hosts the 35th Annual fall Carlsbad Street Fair in the Village of Carlsbadistan. Browse through acres and acres of items from over 900 venders at “the nation’s largest one day faire.”

Find items that you can find at any other street faire in North America. Buy stuff that will make you wonder what you were thinking when you finally get it back into your home. But that’s not the fun of street faire. The fun is just mingling with your friends an neighbors on streets void of traffic.

“The faire is a social happening of major proportions. With almost more attendees than Carlsbad residents, the event nearly doubles the population of Carlsbad for one day,” said Ted Owen, president and chief executive officer of the Carlsbad Chamber. “Fun, food and great prices are the faire’s main ingredients.”

And we have to agree with Ted. We’ll see you there.

Carlsbad Street Fair: Fall 2008

by The Editors on November 2, 2008

Stfair1108B

Don’t know what it was about the Carlsbadistan Street Faire, but today we actually had fun. The streets were packed, the sun was out, then it rained to cool things off a little, and then the sun came back out again.

Sure, many of the booths were stacked full of junk we wouldn’t even haul to the Goodwill, but it was so good seeing the streets filled with smiling faces that not even a fire-and-brimstone street preacher could bring us down.

We didn’t count, but it looked a lot like the biggest and best Street Faire ever. Follow the jump for all the photos.

Fall Carlsbad Street Faire This Sunday

by The Editors on October 29, 2008

Sf-2

We originally wrote this in May, but as the bi-annual Carlsbadistan Street Faire and Junk Show is the same year after year after year we’re going to do our part for self-sustaining blogging and simply run it again:

Hard to believe it’s already been six months since the last Carlsbad Street Faire, but don’t kid yourself. Time flies.

On Sunday, November 2, 2008 expect to see the streets of Carlsbadistan shut down so traveling QVC salespeople can clutter our Village with push-up tents filled with junk of all shapes and sizes. Get out early and load up. And don’t forget the beer garden. Because it’s usually the safest place to stand in the whole faire. Plus, in the beer garden you won’t have to worry about tripping over any neon coyote doorstops with macramé tails.

And please, if you’re coming down to park in our neighborhood, please do it quietly and remember to pack your trash.
