During the summer the the Carlsbad High School Varsity Dance Team, The Lancer Dancers, placed first in their home qualifying routine at the Elite UDA Dance Camp held at the University of San Diego. That gives them the opportunity to compete in the UDA National Championships in Orlando, Florida February 5-7, 2009. Now they just have to raise the money to get the entire team there. But they have an idea. . .
The Lancer Dancers are teaching dance classes for children in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade at CHS. . . The Kid’s Classes will begin September 23rd for and run for 10 weeks. Dance students will learn dances, technique, and have a chance to perform at the Lancer Dancer Showcase in December at the Carlsbad Performing Arts Center as a “Jr. Lancer Dancer.”

Before it was built Carlsbadistan’s Legoland was positioned as a tiny little theme park “just for small kids” that would be happy staying small. Each year, however, seems to bring new expansion plans from the Merlin Entertainments Group owned theme park.
First it was an aquarium, then the company got the city to change their parking requirements so they could build a hotel and restaurants, now according to the LA Times Legoland is asking the City of Carlsbad to allow them to put in a 5.5 acre waterpark.
San Diego County theme park Legoland has submitted its plan to the city of Carlsbad to build a 5.5-acre water attraction in the park’s northern section, officials said Friday. . . .The water park’s cost and design have yet to be determined, but Legoland spokeswoman Julie Estrada said it would be open by next summer.
The water park, like the aquarium, would have it’s own entry fee meaning there would actually be three amusement parks where previously only one stood. As one Carlsbadistan.com news tipper asks, “I wonder how this will affect the water park at Alga Norte.”

Yesterday’s story of a missing 10-year-old boy at the beach in Carlsbadistan has a very happy ending. Carlsbad Police were first notified that a boy was missing at 4:45 PM and by 6 PM the San Diego County Sheriff was flying up and down the beach alerting the public to the missing child with a PA. But, according to Police, by 7 PM the search was over and the child was back safely with his parents.
A Carlsbad Police Department operator said the boy apparently wandered off and then, after hearing his name being called from the helicopter, borrowed a cell phone and called his dad.
In a comment on this post people who claim they found the boy said that Christian did not in fact call his dad on a cellphone.
“He was walking down the beach in South Oceanside asking folks which way was Carlsbad,” the commenter said. “Two women asked if he was Christian, he said yes, and a group of about ten of us started waving like crazy to the police helicopter frantically. We waited with the boy for the land police to show up. The boy had never noticed, much less heard the PA system calling out his own name. He really was unaware of any fuss or how much time had passed, he just wanted to walk back home. Police drove him back to Carlsbad.”
Thanks to everyone who commented and cared.

Jay Beard, founder of the Carlsbadistan-based video gaming developer BottleRocket Entertainment announced that he is shuttering the business, according to a post on GameIndustry.biz.
In an email to friends, sent to GamesIndustry.biz, Beard wrote of his disappointment at the predicament, but noted that he was currently building a new studio “from the ground up”. . . “It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the closure of BottleRocket,” he wrote. “After fighting to keep the doors open for the past six months we have decided to close and move on. . . “BottleRocket was in business for seven years and I feel that we developed a sound reputation for quality and creativity. I was once told that we ‘zigged while others zagged,’ and I like to think that we shall be remembered this way.
Hopefully, Beard gets the new things rolling soon. Carlsbadistan is loaded with video game talent

It seems that the Bethany Edmund Great White Shark attack at Terramar story just keeps getting better with each telling.
Now, the 22-year-old (who strangely enough is a swimsuit model and nursing student) says that there was a surfer in the water who saw exactly what happened, according to a story on NBC San Diego.
“After I was hit and out of the water, a surfer saw me bump up out of the water, and I said, ‘Fuck me, I’m getting attacked by a shark,’ and he, I think I heard it, and he just started paddling in, and I yelled at him. I said, ‘Hey, bailer, I hope if I die you feel bad.’ He just ran out of the water and up the stairs, and I’ve never seen him again. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t a local at all.”
Not that we can blame the guy. “Fuck me, I’m getting attacked by a shark” is not exactly the kind of distress call that we’re accustomed to either, but we’re glad she’s okay.
Click here for all the photos including the photo of the shark that Edmund says attacked her (below), a photo of the guy who bailed on her, and many photos of Bethany in bikinis near water.
