We’ve been watching the construction on Carlsbadistan’sBeach Terrance Inn for months now, often wondering why the beachside hotel would remodel during the summer, but then we decided they know what they’re doing. After last week’s grand opening it appears we were right.
The hotel’s new luxury upgrades include completely re-configured and enlarged lobby; custom stained glass windows in lobby doors and windows; new mahogany window casings; new Palmwood flooring with beach pebble trim; refurbished rooms and common areas; Italian ceramic tile in entryways of many rooms; custom cast glass panels in all guestrooms (crafted by local artist); enlarged bathrooms with granite vanities and walk-in showers; 42” LCD flat screen TVs in all rooms; 310-count bed linens; waffle weave bathrobes in all rooms; and environmentally-friendly bath/body amenities and housekeeping products.
There really is no better place in Carlsbad to stay, literally on the beach. We recommend this property.
On Friday, September 25, 2009 the Carlsbad City Library will be celebrating its 10th year anniversary with a free celebration from 3:30 to 4:30 PM in the courtyard.
Highlights include music by guitarist Patrick Berrogain, children’s activities, then-and-now displays, and refreshments. Carlsbad City Library is located at 1775 Dove Lane in southern Carlsbad.
At 11:30 AM this morning (September 20, 2009) the Carlsbad Fire Department responded to a surfing injury just south of the Tamarack jetties. The girl, approximately 16 years of age, apparently hit her head on her surfboard causing a cut to the bridge of her nose and knocking her pretty hard.
According to lifeguards someone nearby phoned 911 after seeing the girl being carried out of the water. After being treated on the beach the girl was able to stand and get into a lifeguard truck under her own power and was driven to a waiting ambulance where she was transported to the hospital.
Yesterday (September 16, 2009) at about 2:30 AM a boat was found abandoned near Ponto, according to a story on San Diego 6.
Authorities combing the coastline for whoever abandoned a boat in Carlsbad early Wednesday intercepted a boat offshore carrying 23 suspected illegal immigrants, according to a U.S. Coast Guard spokesman. . . The boat was spotted by a helicopter crew at around 4:00 am (1100 GMT) south of Carlsbad.
Ponto has been a hotbed for illegal immigration action all summer. On July 17, 2009 20 illegals were arrested (and the boat got away). On August 21, 2009 23 illegals were arrested (and the boat got away) This time the people got away, but they got the boat. And they caught another 23 and another boat.
Appears the authorities are getting a little better at this game. Practice makes perfect.
The body of Carlsbad’s Bjorn Eklund, 36, was found in a hiking area in South Orange County Friday, September 11, 2009 after his wife reported him missing on Thursday, according to a story in the OC Register.
On Friday, a hiker found a backpack containing some of Eklund’s personal belongings in a hiking area near Crown Valley and Antonio parkways and notified authorities, Amormino said. . . The sheriff’s department sent out a helicopter to scan the area and found Eklund’s body. . . The coroner’s office is investigating whether the man committed suicide, Amormino said. The body had no trauma indicating assault, gunshots or stab wounds, nor were there indications that Eklund fell.
Our thoughts are with Eklund’s family and friends.
We don’t even disagree with their point about the 2nd Amendment, but just from the looks on their faces we can tell these guys get off on strapping their “pieces” on and parading around the streets while smirking like exhibitionists with their flies open.
Before it was built Carlsbadistan’sLegoland was positioned as a tiny little theme park “just for small kids” that would be happy staying small. Each year, however, seems to bring new expansion plans from the Merlin Entertainments Group owned theme park.
First it was an aquarium, then the company got the city to change their parking requirements so they could build a hotel and restaurants, now according to the LA Times Legoland is asking the City of Carlsbad to allow them to put in a 5.5 acre waterpark.
San Diego County theme park Legoland has submitted its plan to the city of Carlsbad to build a 5.5-acre water attraction in the park’s northern section, officials said Friday. . . .The water park’s cost and design have yet to be determined, but Legoland spokeswoman Julie Estrada said it would be open by next summer.
The water park, like the aquarium, would have it’s own entry fee meaning there would actually be three amusement parks where previously only one stood. As one Carlsbadistan.com news tipper asks, “I wonder how this will affect the water park at Alga Norte.”
Yesterday’s story of a missing 10-year-old boy at the beach in Carlsbadistan has a very happy ending. Carlsbad Police were first notified that a boy was missing at 4:45 PM and by 6 PM the San Diego County Sheriff was flying up and down the beach alerting the public to the missing child with a PA. But, according to Police, by 7 PM the search was over and the child was back safely with his parents.
A Carlsbad Police Department operator said the boy apparently wandered off and then, after hearing his name being called from the helicopter, borrowed a cell phone and called his dad.
In a comment on this post people who claim they found the boy said that Christian did not in fact call his dad on a cellphone.
“He was walking down the beach in South Oceanside asking folks which way was Carlsbad,” the commenter said. “Two women asked if he was Christian, he said yes, and a group of about ten of us started waving like crazy to the police helicopter frantically. We waited with the boy for the land police to show up. The boy had never noticed, much less heard the PA system calling out his own name. He really was unaware of any fuss or how much time had passed, he just wanted to walk back home. Police drove him back to Carlsbad.”
Thanks to everyone who commented and cared.
[Editors note: This story was updated Sept. 6, 2009 4:50 PM with information left by a commenter on the site.]
Starting at about 6 PM this evening (September 6, 2009) (and continuing) the San Diego Sheriff’s helicopter has been flying up and down the beach in Carlsbadistan with the same message:
Missing. White Male. Name of Christian. No Shirt. Blue Shorts with thunder on the back.
The Carlsbad Police department also started backward 911 calling local residents giving the same information and explaining that the boy was last seen swimming. Anyone with information please call 911.
There’s really no better place in the world to remember the people who make America work than the beach in Carlsbadistan. We are all very lucky to have this in our front yard.
